ATF announces new rules to encourage road trips by straw buyers
Edited on Tue Jul-12-11 11:51 AM by friendly_iconoclast
Note: Title changed, as only us geezers who lived through the cocaine cowboy era in South Florida would know

what "smurfing" is: getting someone with a clean record to perform multiple, seemingly innocuous tasks in more than

one location in order to hide illegal activity. The practice was used by money launderers back in the 80s, to hide the massive

amounts of cash that cocaine dealers would acquire. And no, it does not involve little blue people wearing white hats:

"The Justice Department announced today it will require federally licensed gun shops in Texas, California, Arizona and New Mexico to report to the ATF purchases of two or more of some types of semi-automatic rifles within a five-day span by the same person."

One hopes that the straw buyers will get a nice mileage allowance as they make a circuit of multiple gun shops within their

home states, and that their bosses provide them with safe, fuel-efficient vehicles in which to do so.

Security theater at its finest....

1. It was far easier when the ATF was allowing straw purchasers to buy large quantities ...
of firearms from just one store.

Think of all the gasoline that policy saved.

3. I'm sure there will be a "loophole" for them....
big enough to throw an Anti through.
