Guns for Me but not for Thee?
From the Richmopnd Times Dispatch

Antigun Senator Shoots Intruder

Long time Anti-Gun Advocate State Senator R.C. Soles, 74, shot one of two intruders at his home just outside Tabor City, N.C. about 5 p.m. Sunday, the prosecutor for the politician's home county said.

The victim, Kyle Blackburn, was taken to a South Carolina hospital, but the injuries were not reported to be life-threatening, according to Rex Gore, district attorney for Columbus, Bladen and Brunswick counties..

(snip)

The Senator, who has made a career of being against gun ownership for the general public, didn't hesitate to defend himself with his own gun when he believed he was in immediate danger and he was the victim.

8. I posted this because it so typifies the attitude
of many of our anti gun memebers who come in here and damn us all to Hell as "toters" then let it slip that they own guns ( but it's not OK for us to)

3. this is an old story
and frankly being anti gun is the least of his hypocritical problems. Incidently I don't see any evidence in that article that he was anti gun. It was a story in NC for his being anti gay but gay himself.

5. This was litigated on DU some months ago
The verdict was Mr Soles was indeed a hypocritical douchebag.

If I remember correctly his hypocrisy went beyond his opinions on gun ownership.

12. Kennedy Bodyguard Arrested For Possessing Machine Guns
Always a classic....

Kennedy Bodyguard Arrested For Possessing Machine Guns

January 15, 1986|By United Press International

Sen. Edward Kennedy's private bodyguard, hired for a trip to South America, was arrested last week when he arrived at the Capitol with two submachine guns and ammunition, officials said Tuesday.

The bodyguard was identified as Charles Stein, 47, a former police officer in San Fernando, Calif., who has worked for the Massachusetts Democrat in the past, providing security on overseas trips. He was released on his own recognizance after appearing in court.

(snip) more at link

Lt. Jeffrey Zanotti of the Capitol Police said Stein identified himself as Kennedy's bodyguard, told a guard he had weapons in his briefcase and asked where he could check them.

Police, however, confiscated the two submachine guns -- an Italian Beretta and an Israeli Uzi -- and 146 rounds of ammunition. They also detained Stein, charging him with possession of weapons without a license.

Uzi and Beretta submachine guns fire 9mm pistol ammunition. They have metal stocks that shorten the weapons to about 17 inches when folded, making them easy to conceal.

The Uzi, used by the U.S. Secret Service, was developed by the Israeli army.

The Washington Post quoted a source who said of the weapons, ''We're talking a small army.''

But Kennedy spokesman Robert Mann said, ''Chuck is a highly respected security person . . . not a Rambo type.''

That's one of the better examples. Rosie O'Donnell (gun hating armed bodyguard employer), Jane Fonda (gun hater by day gun toter by night "Those laws are for other people"). Examples of 2A hypocrisy abound!

11. Another example of misreading situation. "Misinterpreting" is dangerous with gun in one's pants.
Edited on Sat Jul-16-11 03:42 PM by Hoyt

So the guy turns out to be an NRA favorite, but gunners can't even interpret things when sitting in the comfort of their own home. That's dangerous on the streets with a gun or two at hand.

15. "And what does Ted Kennedy have to do with this. You must have gotten that from right wing site.."
Yep, the Orlando Sentinal, LA times has it in the archives as well....

And the below seems to be fitting for this reply....

"The rules of the Inner Party are held together by adherence to a common doctrine. In a Party member not even the smallest deviation of opinion on the most unimportant subject can be tolerated. But it is also necessary to remember that events happened in the desired manner. And if it is necessary to rearrange one's memories or to tamper with written records, then it is necessary to forget that one has done so. The trick of doing this can be learned like any other mental technique. It is learned by the majority of Party members, and certainly by all who are intelligent as well as orthodox. In Oldspeak it is called, quite frankly, "reality control." In Newspeak, it is called doublethink, though doublethink comprises much else as well."

19. Just like all those reports of the ATF deliberately allowing straw buyers to purchase guns?
Edited on Sun Jul-17-11 12:36 AM by friendly_iconoclast
I distinctly remember somebody named after a movie star earnestly assuring us on multiple occasions that all that talk about

something called "Operation Fast And Furious" was GOP/NRA disinformation.

Those right-wingers are pretty sneaky. Not only are they planting items in the LA Times, the BBC News website, the Washington

Post, and ABC News about OF&F- they've obviously hacked the archives of the Orlando Sentinel and the LA Times to insert

that obviously unpossible story about Ted Kennedys' bodyguard.

Hoyt, as someone who is concerned about guns in society, it's clearly your duty to report this hacking to the proper authorities,

i.e. the FBI.

You'll be giving them a call directly, won't you? Be sure and tell us how it turns out....

For example, credit card skimming is a high tech counterfeiting, etc.

Edited on Sun Jul-17-11 09:54 AM by Lurks Often
carrying TWO sub machine guns, something that was reported in numerous newspapers is to say
"Clearly right wing gun BS on reading".

And you wonder why none of us take you seriously. You are never able to dispute anything with facts, you merely trot out the same tired, pathetic talking points put forth by VPC and the Brady crowd and ignore anything that might conflict with your world view.

25. Hoyt,
How do you expect anyone who reads this--anyone with a slightly open mind--to retain any respect for your intellect or integrity?

People like you, with your automatic dismissal of unfavorable news reports from reputable sources, are very good for the gun rights cause.

I would like to personally express my gratitude; we couldn't ask for better adversaries.

Thank you for your opposition.
