I thought Europe had thoughtful gun laws and no crime?
Every time we suffer a tragedy at the hands of a gun toting criminal... we see/hear stories from Europe condemning the US "obsession" with guns and the violence in our culture...

So my European friends... it's been 16+ years since we had a domestic terrorist take out that many people and the US has nearly 70x the population of Norway.

Note: My heart aches for the victims and families... as I do whenever a tragedy strikes ANY person.

6. Yes, but Europe, just like the US, has its fair share of Rightwing terrorists in training.
They just don't have the extremely easy access to military-style ordinance the Right-wing American terrorists in training do.

You might like to consider the comparing violent crime rate of Norway to Colorado.

11. When gun tragedy strikes the US... European media is the first
to blame AMERICAN gun-obsession... and the violent-culture in the US.

12. Please give sources that the European media claims they have no crime, let alone no gun crime.

24. this may help
http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/world/la-naw-norway-gun-policy-20110724,0,7974761.story

Citing the "Small Arms Survey 2007: Guns and the City," published by Cambridge University Press, the website give the rate of private gun ownership in Norway as 31.32 firearms per 100 people, less than the reported rate in the U.S. of 88.82 firearms per 100 people.

Five homicides committed with a gun were reported in Norway in 2005, the latest year for which the site has data confirming firearm-related murders in the country. In comparison, the U.S., which has a population more than 50 times greater, had 10,158 gun-related murders the same year, or 2,000 times that of Norway.

The 2,000 is of course a comparison of raw numbers, hardly an appropriate comparison. The ratio is more like 40 to 1.

If the US had the same firearms homicide rate as Norway, it would have had fewer than 300 firearms homicides. The comparison for England/Wales is not far off the same figure.

Colorado had 175 homicides in 2009; if national ratios hold, about 2/3 thirds of them were by firearm.
