GOP/Gun Nut Madness In Georgia
Can't let anything interfere with some people's gun fetish....

"ATLANTA (AP) -- A bill to create Georgia's first felony child endangerment law unanimously passed the Senate on Tuesday, but only after Republicans tried unsuccessfully to attach a gun owner exemption and an anti-abortion amendment.
The bill, which was backed by Lt. Gov. Mark and sponsored by Sen. Michael Meyer Von Bremen, D-Albany, now heads to the House, where it will likely be met without opposition.
Georgia is the only state without a felony child endangerment statute.
During a 45-minute debate, Sen. Ralph Hudgens, a Republican from Comer, offered an amendment to apply the child endangerment charge to anyone who performs an abortion on a woman past her 24th week of pregnancy. His amendment was eventually withdrawn.
The other amendment, introduced by Republican Sen. Preston Smith of Rome, would have exempted gun owners from the bill. It was defeated 36-16."

3. Guns don't endanger anybody.
They are inanimate. Irresponsible behaviour can endanger. With the little information I have, I make a preliminary judgement that the amendment was not proper.

5. Now THAT'S funny!
:D

I'd be curious for more details as to what they meant by exempting gun owners from this. Obviously they don't mean that gun owners get to slap kids around but what were they attempting?

Geeze, it seems pretty goddamn plain as day that the GOP was pandering to gun nuts, as usual...

7. I wish they had more details
I'm proud to be what Mr.Benchley calls a "gun nut", but exempting gun owners from a felony child endangerment statute? That's disgusting.

I wish they had more details so I could know for sure that it was as bad as the article makes it sound. I wish they had included a list of who voted for it so I could add them to my (surprisingly short) list of sub-humans.
