Machete Registration Too?
More machetes = less crime?

The suspect walked into the YMCA's International Services Facility in southwest Houston carrying a 14-inch machete. The man allegedly stabbed two employees, as well as two clients who were trying to help the employees, around noon on Wednesday.

1. It's Might Already Have Been Illegal
Blade length laws vary from state to state - anybody know about Texas?

2. In Texas there are no restrictions on fixed-blade knives
However, unlike California (of all places) one cannot legally own a switchblade in Texas unless it is a curio or relic (which is not defined in the law).

It is however illegal to assault people in Texas except in self-defense.

4. SOME THINGS ARE SACROSANT
and it may be that national crime rates are in direct inverse proportion to that of machete use. For example, the Interpol reported that among 300 or so nations, US ranks with the 11 highest crime rate while Mexico, where machetes abound as necessary tools, enjoys the tenth lowest. We don't want your damn guns, but you'll never get my machete. What would I use to shave?

5. If this is a "critique" of gun control then it doesn't work...
Quite the opposite, IMHO.....

I'm not anti gun (yes, I'll say it again) but I am a crusader for logical and sensible argument on the topic.

If this guy had got a gun rather than a machete then it would have been significantly easier for him to kill and maim a larger number of people.

P.
