I'll Be Out of the Gungeon for a Few Days
I had an epidural injection in my lumbar area this morning; the pain management doc I'm seeing is trying to reduce the pain I have from two herniated discs I received in an accident a few years back.

It hurts like hell to sit up, so I won't be on-line for the next few days.

Keep the flames smoldering, everybody!!! :-)

4. I'm Back!!!
The initial pain went away a lot sooner than I expected, and I was actually able to return to work this morning.

Thanks for all the well wishes!

5. And to think that I was just going to give you my secret but...
...surefire way to take care of back pain. :)

Glad you are feeling better. Back injuries are not all the fun they are made out to be.

6. Thanks, Jay!!
I have two herniated disks in my lumbar from an accident in 2000 that was aggravated by a second accident in 2002. They were re-agravated by an accident in February of this year, when I herniated two disks in my neck.

I'm keeping one spine specialist and two pain management specialsts busy. Soon I'll also be starting physical therapy, so there's someone else who I'll be seeing on a regular basis.

8. Actually it is nothing more than...
...a bottle or two of Jack Daniels a day. You won't even notice your back pain. Just don't try to get your insurance company to pay for the booze; they won't. :)

13. About Jack Daniels
I gave my father a bottle of Jack Daniels one year for his birthday. A few days later, he was injured on the job. The doctor in the ER prescribed Tylenol & codeine - Dad didn't want to mess with that. So for the next few days, when his foot started to hurt, he's take a shot of Jack Daniels - he went through the bottle in a few days, but those days were pain-free!!

:-)

I can't drink anything because it would react badly with my pain medication, and I need to be alert for my 44-mile daily commute.

17. Friend of mine had a morphine drip installed.
He was on a traffic stop and was hit by a passing vehicle. Driver blew a 2.8 on the Breathalyzer. Hopefully yours is not that bad.
Get well.

19. I'm Not That Bad
But I have been wearing a TENS unit since 2002. It's a plastic box about the size of a cigarette pack that sends electric pulses to patches I stick to my back. It make the pain more manageable.

You should take this opportunity to do something different and exciting, like go into labour.

;)

Glad it worked!

21. Sorry to hear that, man!
I had a herniated disk 5 months ago and still shiver when I remember the pain.
You may not like it but a surgery was the only thing that stopped it. Have you considered it?
The first week after the surgery was bad, but now I’m as good as new.

23. The Next Step is an IDET
That's where they stick electrodes in the disc wall and pass an electric current through to seal the leaking disc. I'd be out of work for a few weeks, and then I could only sit for short periods at a time. Since I'm a technical writer adn sit at a PC eight hours a day, that's not an option right now.

26. It Will Be Later This Year At The Earliest
Right now, I'm commuting from Pueblo West to Colorado Springs - 44 miles each way. My wife and I are in the process of selling our house and buying somethign closer to my office. Once we move, I'll consider having the IDET.

29. One of the Things About Colorado...
...are the wide open spaces. A 44-mile drive in my native New Jersey would hove be driving through 15 - 20 towns, townships, or cities. My daily commute has be going through three - Pueblo West, Fountain, and Colorado Springs. The rest of the time, I'm in unincorporated land in Pueblo and El Paso Counties.

had I gotten to this post sooner.

I am glad to hear it went well. If you were going to be in bed a while I was going to send you some Guns&Ammo mags to help pass the time :)
