It was suggested that I...
...peruse pro-gun sites like Thehighroad.com. Well I did.

I haven't posted there because I don't feel that I'm the right person to try to convert people to the Democratic Party but I saw something interesting.

"How about Mr. Benchley and COLiberal and that nasty Canadian Iverglas who writes pages of legal jargan and has a total disdain for the idea of firearms ownership --- but hey ,they all want healthecare, housing, education as a fundamental right enshrined in our constitution. When I talk to a friend who votes Democratic I direct them to check out the great DU site. Some have come back with little to say except ---Is that what I have been voting for!!!!!"

http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=67883&highlight=benchley

It confirmed a suspicion that I've had for awhile. That being that people who post here who are constantly using obnoxious, scatological and vulgar lanquage are being used by the other side as examples of what is wrong with our party. Reasons to not vote for a Dem. Clean up your acts.

1. well hey, while we're on the subject
people who post here who are constantly using obnoxious, scatological and vulgar lanquage are being used by the other side as examples of what is wrong with our party.

... let's go whole hog:

There are three; MrBenchley, who I'm convinced is an unemployed 20 year old kid, Iverglas, who's an Anti-American bitch contstantly on the rag, and CoLiberal, ...

Iverglas is permentantly on the rag; she's an anti-American frustrated f'ing c*nt, and I don't use that epithat lightly.

I think the only true liberals posting in the Gungeon are Benchley, COLiberal, and that bitch Iverglas.

I think iverglas is just a militant feminist with some phallic issues.
Gosh ... isn't it funny how much that resembles what you've brought back to us? Certainly it's what *I* would call reasoned and civil discourse.

Damn ... can't find the learned treatise about my beverage intake habits. It was particularly entertaining.

And the amazing thing is ... that's from a "conservative" place. Isn't that amazing? How much it resembles the sentiment you reproduce for us? And how not quite civilized it all is? Funny how all that scatology and vulgar language doesn't seem to bother them sometimes, ain't it? I mean, it certainly doesn't seem to when it's their great guru engaging in it. Say Hi to Gern, now, folks. (How *do* you put up with us, FeebMaster?)

When I talk to a friend who votes Democratic I direct them to check out the great DU site. Some have come back with little to say except ---Is that what I have been voting for!!!!!"
Well goodness gracious, I know that *I* would be taking the word of scum like that for what Democrats think!

Oh, and maybe you'd like to assure him that he hasn't been voting for me. Not unless he was a Canadian, and he was voting a couple of decades ago.

But hey, you're safe:

MrB and iverglas arent liberals, they are facists. none are very bright, ...
Yeah ... at least as long as you don't compare us to someone who can't spell "fascist". I'm a "facist" all right ... I only insult people to their faces.

people who post here who are constantly using obnoxious, scatological and vulgar lanquage are being used by the other side as examples of what is wrong with our party. Reasons to not vote for a Dem. Clean up your acts.

I have a better idea for what you might do if you don't like it. But since I wouldn't want to get all scatological, I'll leave it to you to figure it out.

So what do *you* think is important, RoeBear? Do *you* think that health care, housing and education are fundamental rights?

10. Funny thing...
In struggling through the idiotic miasma that is highroadrage.com to find this post (which was put up way back in March), roe managed to walk right past THIS without stopping to put up anything progressive or pro-Democrat.

Kerry would be the first Presidnt ever elected who has backed the extreme grabber wing of the gun control side without hesitation for 20 years - so it is tough to say how bad it would be; but it wouldn't be good.
If you want a preview of what to expect, in March 2004, Kerry voted to ban all centerfire rifle ammunition, including .30-30 specifically by name (apparently the United States most common deer rifle now uses "armor piercing" ammunition).

With a democratic congress, it would mean the end of civilian firearms ownership in the USA, gun registration first confiscation next, even Duck assault shotguns. Maybe we could keep our pellet guns and .22's as long as we were members of a gun club and could store them there and show that we were involved in competition.
All semi autos would be banned first, The centerfire rifles next, then finally everything else. Oh and handguns of course, the clear choice of crimminals and murderers, would be banned after the assualt weapons.

The Taliban sadists will grill the stomach of Mr. Moore when they finish taking over The Islamic Republic of France-istan. He will be confused as they cut him open...

It is very distressing to me to realize just how passionately so many people hate President Bush and everything he stands for. I have to admit that I just don't get it... how can so many people so deeply desire the destruction of our once great society? It is beyond my ability to comprehend this.

RileyMc
We are watching the fragmentation of our society along cultural lines. The enemy within will look for any cleft into which to drive a wedge. Gun control has not worked for them, so they expand their search. Any percieved weakness will do. This Moore cretin is just another opportunistic self serving (look at him-you can tell he's self-obsessed, can't you?) self-loather who wants to destroy everything American.

By the way, the new moderator at highroadrage is that noted humhole and S&M photographer Oleg Volk...and he's decided their political forum will no longer discuss politics, except as it pertains to park-poopingguns. That's because he's such a great believer in park-pooping, er, guns, er, freedom.

2. I
I found out about this site through a few firearm related sited. DU is not even supposed to be mentioned. I try to live in the middle as much as I can. reading both sites, I have noticed one thing is for sure. Some people lean waaaaaayyy to the left and some people lean waaaaayyyyy to the right. I can't usually get along with anyone that leans toooo far.

But I have gained a lot of useful information from both types of web sites.

8. Well, no, I also have disdain
for "pro-gun democrats" who post ignorant dittohead rubbish here seriously, but can't say "boo" on gun owners' forums.

You know, the sort of person who posts right wing bilge or puts up pictures of John Wayne Gacy, to show how progressive and pro-Democrat they are.

who co-sponsored the current Senate AWB, who wants to close the gun show loophole and wants the gun industry put under greater scrutiny.

But hey, town....don't tell me what a great gun rights supporter Kerry is...tell these asswipes.

If anyone ever needs proof that anti gunners put their backwards agenda above all else, including the party, it's in your post.

"It seems that if you support the 2nd amendment he refers to you with nothing but disdain."
Gee, I got nothing for respect for the REAL Second Amendment, as it is written and as the courts and the ACLU interpret it. What I got "nothing but disdain" for are people trying to peddle Crisco John's lies about it...and rightly so.

13. Most everyone has a 'hot' button issue...
Edited on Tue May-18-04 08:41 AM by RoeBear
...some would vote for the person who is in favor of reproductive rights regardless of the candidates stances on other issues. Some, like myself, have union issues at the top. But when someone has gun rights as their 'hot' button and someone like the attorney general says "It is clear that the constitution protests the private ownership of firearms for lawful purposes" they will naturally support that person despite their other views. And yes there are Democrats whose 'hot' button is gun rights. And people like you are pushing them away from voting Democratic.

"yes there are Democrats whose 'hot' button is gun rights."
Yes, we can tell from all the pro-Democrat posts at places like highroadrage...oh that's right, those posts are scarce as hen's teeth. Good job sticking up for John Kerry--oh, that's right you were too busy sifting back to March for the idiocy you psoted here to say word one.

"when someone has gun rights as their 'hot' button and someone like the attorney general says "It is clear that the constitution protests the private ownership of firearms for lawful purposes" they will naturally support that person"
Especially when he's an utterly corrupt attorney general who's spent his entire political life fighting to keep Kansas City schools segregated. But then not many people are really fooled by what is peeping out from under the "gun rights" sheet.

"And people like you are pushing them away from voting Democratic."
Gee, roe, just two sentences earlier you were pretending the siren call of Crisco John was seducing them away...make up your mind.

Fits the general childishness over there.

"you aren't allowed to post there"
Roe, I wouldn't piss on them if they were on fire. Besides, I don't own a fucking gun. Believe it or not, some people don't come on to forums and pretend to be what they are not...although it seems to be common among the sort of scum peddling gun rights over at highroadrage.

(Actually, I am trying to do my job properly, which is why I'm not posting on here so much).

I take your point, Mr Bear, but it seems a bit "arse backwards" to suggest that DUers should clean up their acts because the opposition is misusing their comments. We should indeed try to be reasonably polite, but that's more out of common respect for each other, rather than because some brain-dead numbnuts are going to use highly passioned debates on a SINGLE ISSUE by citizens on an independent website to malign the entire Democrat party.

…after 6 years in the Navy, in everyday conversation I still can’t help but use the word “fuck” as a comma.

If DU is supposed to be soooo bad, I would think that the racist/homophobe think-tank over at freeper-land would have a more naturally caustic and adverse effect on an intelligent person.

23. Something pretty amusing over at THR:
I've heard on ARFCOM that MrBenchley is a progunner cleverly disguising himself as a severe anti to fragment DU into pro/anti-gun democrats.

His rhetoric is too extreme for some of the more moderate DU'ers and the working class demos that may be pro-gun but vote that way because of the Union.

He is almost parodying the Liberal, Democratic anti by being so perfect.
- Hates ALL guns
- Never argues fact. Only emotion and ad hom attacks
- Lies and exaggerates. See 4473/NICS comments above.
- He is spouting crap RIGHT from the VPC/Brady Bunch playbook.
- Never listens to anybody that doesn't toe his line, he puts his fingers in his ears and hums.
- He seems to sniff out Gun threads like a bloodhound and doesn't post much out side them. If he does post outside a gun thread, he cleverly turns it into a gun/2A thread.

And best of all? It seems to work. He's got some DUh'ers licking his boots while others are wanting to distance themselves from him and his anti gun views, only to be attacked by MrBenchley and his little army. He may actually push some fencesitting democrats over to the pro-RKBA/Conservative side. Hell, ONE would be a victory.

I may be wrong, but if I'm right, it's the greatest hose-job ever.

I have to admit, this has occurred to me as well.
