Guns will make us powerful;
Butter will only make us fat.

Herman Goering: 1936.

Yup when I carried I always felt extra powerful, ten feet tall; twenty pounds stupid.

Think I will stick to death by butter.

Opinion piece. Not to be taken too seriously. I used to belong

to a militia. Boy! That was fun, but another story.

1. It's not the guns that are the problem
It's the gun nuts who worry me. The people who are most pro-gun are the ones who should never be allowed to own one.

If I didn't know better I'd swear they were doing crank. You know, the fantasies of power, the enemies behind every corner, the need to constant vigilance, the agression. Sounds like they should get off the bad drugs.

2. Hey DBoon
We meet again. Seems our last meeting was also pleasant.

Guns are an aphrodisiac, a food, a friend, a defender an ego builder.

I never liked CCW, nobody could see how bad I was, only I knew.

I like your post. You have good sense.

Unless you're too old, or a felon, you STILL belong to a Militia. And the Governor of your State appoints it's Officers.

6. Oh. Nonsense
Nobody believes in the constitution any more.

And yes I am to old. I did serve in the Korean War

in Korea. I was Navy for many years. I was a bomb disposal expert. (EOD).

And that is how the Civil Defense Group came to recruit me. They wanted

an explosives guy familiar with military ordnance. So I attended meetings in the County Office Building every Saturday.

We, I should say they talked about Atomic Bombs, bomb shelters, dynamite, cross bows

throwing knives and all kinda neat stuff. Wanted to know if I could rig some explosives

up in a tree which could be detonated by shooting it with an arrow.

Now "why I wondered would any one wanna do something like that?"

I soon learned I was a member of a "Survival Group (Militia)". They were planning

how to steal food, kill their neighbours and other commies that might interfere with their life style.

They had plans to fight their way up to Lake Erie, steal some boats and

escape to the wilds of Canada where they might live happy forever after.

I suggested it might be winter time, the Lake would be frozen, boat idea no good.

After a while they got tired of me and suggested I leave.

I did not own any guns then. That came later, down in South Carolina.

14. The group you describe does not fit any reasonable definition of militia
That's a fringe paramilitary organization at best, more like a bunch of clowns running around in the woods pretending to be soldiers.

19. The so-called Michigan Militia is not a militia
They're a bunch of overweight middle-aged white guys who like to crawl around in the woods clutching their Chinese SKS rifles.

They certainly think they're a militia...and they're prime examples of the RKBA crowd.

More guilt by association.

Did you know that Killer Klown John Wayne Gacy was a very active leader in his local Democratic Party organization?

17. Yes.
They played "War In The Woods" just like real Army guys.

I will remind you this was a Government sponsored "Civil Defence Group"

one of the many in the 1960s, duck and cover dig hidey holes in the ground days.

Yes, very Militia type.

12. The point being
Edited on Tue Aug-26-03 02:57 PM by JitterbugPerfume
that the sole purpose of

taking a shower
crossing the street
going for a swim

is not to kill

guns have one purpose , and one purpose alone

and that is to kill

13. some people need deadly force used against them
in a lawful manner. That's a fact of life.

The problem is ensuring that deadly force is available when needed, without having it fall into the wrong hands.

Hey, I can agree with that! Why down there in South Carolina

When I was a gun nut and rabid defender of me and mine,

and I kept the grass in our lawn stomped into the dirt, and

the exterior window frames painted blue to keep the haints out

and copious quantities of turpentine poured around the house foundation

to keep the snakes out. In the back of my truck window I kept a shot gun.

I had "America Love it or Leave it" ; "Get us Out a the UN" stickers on the truck bumper.

And I carried. People were a bit afraid of me. I was threatend quite a few times

with deadly force. Gee, I was just trying to fit in.

Uhhh....No.

I use my shotguns for "killing" skeet.
I use my rifle for "killing" paper.
I use my pistol for "k..." actually, that one is for defending my life.
