The story doesn't make it clear if it's the Kansas City in Missoouri, or the one in Kansas. Either way, it will be interesting to see how this story turns out - was the 14-year-old killed by reckless use of a gun in a drive-by shooting, or careless storage of a gun? - Wayne

Drive-by shooting was a lie, police say
By TANYANIKA SAMUELS The Kansas City StarA 14-year old Kansas City boy reportedly killed during a drive-by shooting actually died after a friend accidentally shot him in an upstairs bedroom, authorities alleged Tuesday.
Jackson County prosecutors said that 17-year old Joshua Carter was playing with a handgun in the home at 7138 Olive St. when the gun went off. A bullet struck Keyon Steward in the chest.
Carter, however, is sticking to the drive-by shooting claim and maintaining his innocence, court documents read.

On Monday, Keyon's mother, Lisa Steward, spent much of the day at police headquarters. She eventually told police that she was upstairs in her bedroom that afternoon when she heard a loud “pop,” court records stated. She saw four boys carrying Keyon out of another bedroom and down the stairs, and one of them told her that her son had been shot, according to court records.
Two other witnesses said Carter had been playing with a handgun, court records read. They said they heard a “pop,” looked over at Carter then saw that Keyon had been shot in the chest, according to court records. The witnesses said they rushed the injured boy to the front porch and called police.
Carter, however, told police that he was in an upstairs room with two other boys when he heard a “shot” and then heard a car “speed off,” court records stated. Carter said he ran downstairs and discovered that Keyon had been shot, according to court records. He maintains that his friend was the victim of a drive-by, court documents read.
