NDP would lobby U.S. to improve gun control

Canadian Press
June 3, 2004 6:51 PM ET
WINNIPEG — The roots of Canada's gun problems are in the United States, and an NDP government would lobby the Americans for better gun control south of the border to improve things in this country, Jack Layton said Thursday.

"What we are focusing on is the increasing evidence that the biggest problem is illegal guns coming in from the U.S.," Layton told reporters.

"We're proposing going across the border to the U.S. and actively engaging in lobbying to have gun-control laws in the U.S. strengthened."

1. Why don't they just defend their own border?
And leave the governing of America to Americans?

3. America chatizes canada for being soft on terror
when America arms criminals all over the world it seems. Some good neighbor, especially since it's our promiscuous gun laws and enforcement that are way out of step with the rest of the advanced world.

7. Nearly every adult in Switzerland owns an "assault weapon"
Are you sure about that?

8. Yeah the Swiss have a "very well regulated militia"
The Swiss meme is a bunch of crap, most American gunwackos couldn't live with this solution, they just throw it out there as a distraction. No other advanced nation has the weak gun regulation and enforcement the US has.

9. Their "well regulated militia" includes widespread private gun ownership.
Coupled with extensive safety training.

10. And registration? Commericial sale of assault rifles?
At the end of the day the Swiss laws are far more drastic than anything John Kerry or Diane Feinnstein have proposed.
