Schwarzenegger supports closing gun-show loophole in California
Edited on Thu Aug-28-03 12:42 PM by slackmaster
On gun control, he said he supports the assault rifle ban and the Brady Bill requiring criminal background checks on people purchasing guns from licensed dealers. He said he would extend that requirement to gun shows.

Excuse me, Mr. Schwarzenegger.

All transfers of firearms in California already have to go through a licensed dealer and require a background check and waiting period.

That includes sales of used guns by unlicensed individuals as well as licensed dealers, and the procedures for sales at gun shows are exactly the same as for sales at a sporting goods store.

Could it be that Arnold has political aspirations beyond the Golden State?

1. No, it just means

he's playing it safe by supporting laws that are already in place. It also means he has no idea what he's talking about.

2. I think your second sentence sums it up best
It also means he has no idea what he's talking about.

I'd insert the word "fucking" between "no" and "idea".

4. You would think
that with his dozens of movies in which he shoots and kills thousands of people, he would know a little about firearms...

7. He may be banking on the ignorance of people in general
I'd wager that only a small percentage of Californians, and sadly a minority of gun owners, have a clue what laws are already in place. So a few enlightened folks like us will take umbrage at the face value of his silly statement, but is he really pandering to the uneducated masses, counting on the emotional value of saying something that sounds nurturing and protective?

He's either being very shrewd or he's very ignorant.

8. I heard Sen. Edwards say something that stupid once...
He was on Hardball and tried to toe the line on the gun issue...he said he believes people have the right to own firearms, but he doesn't think you should be able to walk out of prison, go to a gun shop, and purchase a gun.

Luckily, we have politicians with his foresight to make that illegal:eyes:

9. He has a problem keeping peace in the family with Uncle Teddy.
On the other hand, steroids build muscle not brain cells.

Still his position must be music to the anti RKBA crowd and Diane Fiendstein might even endorse him. Will Scary Brady give him her undivided support?

10. Arnold's a patsy
Arnold's a patsy. The Kennedy clan publicly denounces his running publicly while privately supporting it knowing that his popularity gives him enough clout to draw critical votes away from bona fide candidates while his lack of integrity and intelligence ensures that he will most likely lose the race. The end game is diluting the republican electorate so any dem can win.

12. Gotta Love It
It seems pretty obvious that the only sin Arnold has committed is not adopting a Republican-enough stance on guns to satisfy all you "Democratic" RKBA types.

How completely and utterly unsurprising.
