Illinois gun owners score another victory...
Coupled with the Illinois Supreme Court dismissing Chicagos nuisance lawsuit against the firearms industry, Illinois gun owners finally have something to celebrate about.

"Lawmakers override veto, approve bill protecting gun owners

CHRISTOPHER WILLS

Associated Press

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - Rejecting the governor's veto, Illinois lawmakers overwhelmingly voted to give new legal protection to homeowners who use a banned handgun to shoot burglars.

The House voted 85-30 Tuesday to override Gov. Rod Blagojevich's veto. The Senate had approved the bill earlier, so it now becomes law.

The legislation applies only in specific and uncommon circumstances, but it became a symbol in the tug-of-war over gun control.

The bill's supporters saw it as a statement of support for the basic concept that people should be able to defend themselves in their own homes. Opponents viewed it as an attempt to undercut local gun laws.

It was inspired by the case of Hale DeMar, a Wilmette restaurant owner who shot a burglar who had broken into his home twice. County prosecutors declined to press charges for the shooting, but Wilmette officials charged DeMar with breaking the city's ban on handguns.

2. I agree. That is something gun-control advocates can support . . .
they SAY they support the right of people to defend themselves, and to hunt, and sport shooting. Well, this is a clear cut case in which they can support those things.

To be clear, we aren't talking about hypotheticals here, but rather real instances of self defense (that is what the law provides for, cases of self-defense). Again, this is something even gun-control advocates can support.

Absolutely! When it comes to local gun bans, the more undercutting the better.

5. I'm an Illinois gun owner and don't see it as a victory.
More phony crap on the part of hypocritical politicians. A gun is legal or illegal. Shit or get off the pot.
