On September 15th 2005, two International Human Rights Observers (IHROs) accompanying shepherds from the Palestinian shepherding village of Qawaweis (in the southern Hebron district) were notified by one of the shepherds of the existence of two explosive devices placed under rocks on their land.

During the documentation of the first device, described by one of the IHROs as “a used military flare, re-packed with explosives”, an IDF patrol arrived and were persuaded to remove both devices. Later in the afternoon, another IDF patrol confirmed that one device had been removed but they made no effort to locate or remove the second. IHROs and shepherds continue to search the area for further mines.

The mined area is owned and frequented by shepherds and their children who are routinely harassed by settlers from the three illegal outposts which surround their land. Recent harrasement has included the destruction of homes and posioning of sheep. The shepherd who found the device exclaimed “They are trying to drive us from our land. First they attack us, then they poison our sheep and now they plant bombs. Why won’t you stop these people?”

is any indication that it was settlers who put those IEDs there.

In fact, the only connection seems to be that settlers are assumed to be the ones who placed them because there are Palestinian shepherds in the area. But the article mentions that there are IDF patrols moving through that area, which means that one of them might have been the target.

if not then go... its something surreal... like in a cursed mystical sort of way.

I haven't been to Hebron itself, though I did have the unique experience, while in the army of having my vehicle die right outside Hebron - in the dark, with no working communication.

Reminisces aside, the fact still stands that you've given nothing I would even say suggests it was settlers who planted the IEDs.

the settlers in hebron are quite awful and the palestinians have no reason to "fake" this. just about a year ago 2 christian peacekeepers were attacked and brutally beaten by settlers in hebron. they were walking palestinian children to school.

What do I tell them? That the police and army refuse to see what they’re doing? The policeman yesterday, a Sephardic Jew, admitted to me that he knew he was a second class citizen in a racist society. “But at least I’m a Jew.” he said. God help us all.

Their own account says IDF patrols were moving through those areas!

And why do I have the feeling that policeman's "quote" is at least slightly out of context? It's amazing that "second class citizens in a racist society" include the President and the Defense Minister (and former IDF chief), among others.

(BTW, I wasn't aware that 13<12.)

from what i have experienced and knowing how hebrons settlers behave my faith stands with the farmers and ISM.
