Labor Party Chairman Amir Peretz on Tuesday said that Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's health will not become a political issue, saying this was a personal matter.
"The health of the prime minister will not become a political issue," said Peretz. "I will not agree that the health of Israel's prime minister would turn into a political issue. This is a personal matter," he told the Labor Party convention in Jerusalem.
But in his address, Labor's chairman had few kind words for Sharon, as Peretz enumerated the prime minister's shortcomings in handling the growing social gaps.
"The issue of public concern is not Sharon's health but the health of Israeli society," he said.
"A Palestinian state has become a consensus. The slogan 'two states for the two nations' is also heard in Likud. But Mr. prime minister, we've never agreed to create two nations within our own country," said Peretz, referring to the growing gaps between the poor and the wealthy sectors.
