better missles in gaza
Edited on Mon Jan-09-06 12:50 AM by pelsar
Most of the experts are Hamas members who specialize in making explosive devices and improving high-trajectory weapons -specifically, building warheads and improving the rockets' aerodynamics

Israel has also recently received information, not yet fully confirmed, that improved Katyusha rockets are being smuggled into the Gaza Strip. These rockets have a 20-kilometer range and a 6.3-kilogram warhead, and are more accurate than the Qassam rockets

and our learned panel here at the DU will now propose a series of "actions" that they will send to the IDF and israel govt (via pelsar) that relates to those new and improved missles if and when they get fired- one should be prepared for the future:

these proposals will have two options:

1. do nothing and let israelis die (pelsar tends to take this proposal a bit personal)....

2. react and stop the missle shooters by......please list a series of actions that that would be acceptable and that will have an affect specifically on the missles being shot.

4. Israel removed 8,475 Gaza settlers; 436,000 settlers remain in West Bank
Edited on Mon Jan-09-06 02:32 AM by Wordie
So to trot out Gaza, as if that were the end of the story, isn't accurate.

And more settlers went into the West Bank (15,800) during that time than were removed from Gaza.

But the Israelis did not get out of Gaza. A big fuss was created about the great sacrifice Israel was making and how painful it was for settlers to leave. If you steal a piece of land and keep it for 20 years, of course it becomes painful to leave it but it is still something stolen that should be returned to its owners. Prior to the disengagement, a total of 152 settlements existed in the occupied territories: 101 in the West Bank, 30 in East Jerusalem, and 21 in the Gaza Strip. These figures do not include the settlements that Sharon and the Israeli army have created in the West Bank without officially recognizing them. With the disengagement, and the evacuation of settlements in Gaza and four small settlements in the Jenin area of the West Bank, 127 settlements have been left in place.

The total population of settlers -- illegal under international law, and under the 2004 ruling of the International Court of Justice (ICJ), which states that the separation wall and every settlement in the West Bank, Gaza and East Jerusalem must be removed -- numbers some 436,000: 190,000 in Jerusalem, and 246,000 in the West Bank. Just 8,475, or two per cent of the total number of illegal settlers in the occupied territories were removed from the Gaza Strip and Jenin area. Yet in the same period, the settlement population in the West Bank has grown by a massive 15,800.

The person I responded to made a very illogical remark. Israel was removed from Gaza, yet that is where the missiles are coming from! So, to trot out your story would only indicate that Palestinians really aren't interested in resolution of the situation, except through violence and unilateral "negotiations."

On edit: You do know where the missiles are being launched from, no?

6. On the contrary...
Edited on Mon Jan-09-06 02:48 AM by Wordie
The person suggested that the solution was to get off stolen land (number 3 to the list of 2 in the OP). Your reply:

You do realize that Israel did number 3...

And that's just not accurate, or certainly only a half-truth (or 2% truth?).

If someone stole $1000 dollars from you and returned only 2%, would you act as if the reparations were complete? Would you blame the victim for continuing to seek the return of the stolen money? Would you suddenly start lauding the honesty of the person (which is roughly the equivalent of this "man of peace" stuff)?

(And in this I'm not saying I approve of the methods (kassams), only that the goal of getting their land back is completely understandable.)

7. did you read the title of the thread?
It is about missiles from GAZA, not the WEST BANK!

As for your example....he gives me back 2%, I think I would give him credit for being on the right path, I doubt I would start drive-by shootings of his house.

While you may not approve, or so you say, of the kassams, if they really want their land back, don't you think sitting down and discussing it is better? Don't you think that the 'liberated' Gaza and PA should be doing something to reign in its militants?

9. Title of thread is wrong.
Actual title of article:

"Source: Arab-trained Palestinian terrorists have entered Gaza."

8. note the time frame
Edited on Mon Jan-09-06 03:59 AM by pelsar
the time frame is this week.....there wont be complete evacuation of anything this week....so the question remains:

does israel do anything or nothing this week....as the kassams come flying over the border...?

as i understand the answers so far they are: stand still this week while they are shooting at you and hope they miss..

3. doesnt answer....
the answers we are looking are to be employed within the next day or week or so..thats our time frame.....the "get off the land" answer is equivilant to "let the israelis get killed in the meantime from the missles"

and of course i'm not sure the chaos of gaza would actually bring "peace"....might bring additional missles on Jerusalem, etc.

12. how many israeli citizens
Edited on Mon Jan-09-06 07:02 AM by pelsar
have been terrorized by kassams? (hint: city of sedrot)....and when one lands on a kindergarten only then will they be declared deadly?

a good govt acts to prevent its citizens from being killed before it happens

(seems to me israels sonic booms which didnt kill anyone, was declared "terrorism", the IDF shelling of empty areas was declared terrorism....collective punishment...)
