Rightists, Arabs clash over 'emigration deal'
Jaffa residents hurl stun grenade, bottles at Herut party members who hand out leaflets calling on Arabs to emigrate from Israel in return for compensation

"A violent confrontation erupted Thursday noon in Jaffa between Arab residents and some 15 activists of the rightist Herut (freedom) party, headed by Michael Kleiner, who offered the locals to emigrate from Israel in return for compensations. The locals beat up Kleiner and his associates, and also hurled a stun grenade and bottles at their direction. Herut members consequently fled the scene.

Kleiner clashed with the chairman of the Arab neighborhoods committee in Jaffa Kamal Agbariya, former soccer player Rifat Turk and a group of local residents. Herut member decided to come to Jaffa after Rifat Turk threatened in a conversation with Ynet that "if they (rightists) came here during the day, our guys would know how to treat them."

One of Herut's activists, a Jew with a heavy American accent, took out a stash of thousands of shekels from his pocket and offered Turk and the other residents to pay them "an advancement." Turk, in response, struck out at the money, which subsequently flew in every direction. Happy passersby were quick to pick up the bills, leaving the unlucky "donor" empty handed."

1. Beilin to Jaffa Arabs: This is your home
Meretz chairman tours Jaffa, tells Arab residents no one will threaten their future in country; remarks come in response to tour by rightists who offered compensation for Arab departure

"If Jews were called upon to leave France voluntarily in exchange for compensation, "we would protest against the anti-Semitism there," Meretz-Yachad Chairman Yossi Beilin said during a tour in Jaffa along with dozens of Meretz activists.

"For us, Judaism is about moral values and Zionism is self-determination that doesn't come at the expense of others' rights," he said.

The tour came in response to an earlier tour by rightists, who offered compensation to Jaffa Arabs in order to encourage them to leave.

"You're citizens with equal rights," Beilin said during the tour. "This is your home and no one will threaten your future here."

"As long as we're alive, Meretz will fight against the incitement coming from (rightist activists) Kleiner and Marzel," Beilin added. "We intend to do this from within the next government."

2. How long will these people live?
Uri Avnery life is in danger. No doubt these defenders of human rights is also in danger.

A difficult time to be a Israeli supporter of human rights.

The news has spread by now of the death threat against Uri Avnery by Baruch Marzel,
so no use to go ahead with the original idea of not reacting - as to not give Marzel the media attention he was hoping for...

Incitement to murder

Death threat against Uri Avnery by electioneering Israeli fascist Baruch Marzel

At an election meeting, the leader of the "Jewish National Front" list, Baruch
Marzel, called upon the Israeli army to kill Uri Avnery - this was reported by the
right-wing Haaretz reporter, Nadav Shragai on March 21. The story was also published
in Maariv, and the day before in all the important on-line papers.

Clearly, the Israeli army was mentioned only in order to disguise the incitement to
murder - a criminal offence - as a proposal to the military.

The call came after the official radio, Kol Israel, broadcast remarks made by Avnery
to a reporter during a demonstration against the Israeli army attack on the Jericho
prison.
