Study: Poverty in Israel is now at the worst level in Western world
A total of 18 percent of all families in Israel live below the poverty line, the highest such figure in the Western world, with half of Israeli Arab families living in poverty, Army Radio reported Sunday.

The report quoted a special study by the Israel Democracy Institute, prepared in advance of the upcoming Caesaria Conference on the Israeli economy.

"Governmental support per citizen fails even to resemble that which is acceptable in developed nations," the report was quoted as saying

Ordinary citizens are not a priority. Given the "demographic problem", one can argue that they ought to be, at least in Israel (as opposed to the US), if one is to end the current out-migration and encourage a return of in-migration, but clearly that is not the way the government sees it. But then, the government is clearly composed of fools and stooges (either Israel's or the US') who think that military force is the best solution to any problem. To a six-year old boy with a big hammer, everything looks like a nail.

"Army Radio reported Sunday". No evidence, only a report from the Army radio.

This list posted shows its 21% as of 2005, and Israel isn't part of the Western world, it's part of the Middle East.

A report on Army Radio is a form of evidence, maybe not good evidence, but still you will see it quoted here at times as though it were the word of the deity.

Population below poverty line:21% (2005)


By contrast, the US has a 12% poverty rate, or about 32,000,000. I think that is far more worrysome IMHO as an American citizen).

8. The OP refers to "families", not "population".
In this case, the distinction seems important. I do wonder why it's put that way, and it leaves one wondering about how single people are doing, and so on.
