Palestinians Fire Rockets Into Israel
Palestinians Fire Rockets Into Israel

Friday June 16, 2006 4:01 PM
By SARAH EL DEEB

Associated Press Writer

GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip (AP) - Palestinian militants fired five homemade rockets into Israel on Friday, a day after the Hamas-led government offered to renew a cease-fire.

Although the rockets were not fired by Hamas, they are likely to provoke a sharp Israeli response - endangering prospects for a return to quiet following days of intense bloodshed.

The Israeli army said there were no injuries. But the attacks drew a tough threat from a senior Israeli official and raised questions about efforts to restore calm after nearly a week of fighting.

Hamas said Thursday it was ready to restore the February 2005 cease-fire, which broke down last week after a beach explosion killed eight Palestinians. A Hamas official said the group also was working to stop the daily rocket barrages on Israel.

1. provoke a sharp Israeli response- not self defense
by the way, have you ever seen a home made palestinian rocket first person?
i have. theyre roughly equivalent to a mexican made firework. the powder inside is of more bark than bite... and the only folks who take these seriously are the kids.

5. 6 years, hundreds of thousands of rockets and five deaths?
i think the correct term is EXAGGERATE - to amplify; to magnify; to enlarge beyond bounds or the truth; to delineate extravagantly; to overstate the truth concerning.

Synonyms: amplify, hyerbolise, hyperbolize, magnify, overdo, overdraw, overstate

diminshing the effect of the 5,000 kassams launched...i 've heard them..... and the randomness of them as well as the boom is "terrorism"...ask the residents of the towns who are the targets...i dont think they'll agree with you, nor those wounded by them. I think they as well as the citizens of israel take attacks on their towns very serious

and since only the palestenains have the ability to "stop this cycle" (all they have to do is stop trying to kill israelis)....all those killed and wounded by any and all israeli responses is on them.....all they have to do stop shooting and israel will do the same.

and if israel stops responding ...all israel will get is far more accurate kassam launches...and more of them.

i think this is an argument both sides like to use, but we both know the israelis are much more accurate with their artillery.

and as far as the "booms" and sour stomachs from wonderng "whats next" imagine the gazan residence with its history of air stike assassinations... then remember F16 sonic boom fly overs... to remind them who is in control... then remember israeli tanks occupying the street corners during an invasion. firing shells at random civilians leaving large holes in schools walls. and then theres the snipers in strategic positions who fire at any target too close to their pillbox... and nobody but the sniper knows where this pillbox is. how is a child suppose to know when too close is too close. theres no taking back that bullet.

7. gaza is pretty clear...

not much room for confusion here. The argument is definitely NOT even. The Palestinians cant/wont even bother trying NOT to shoot for a week..and see the israeli response or non response...and the reason is clear.

if they dont shoot and israel doesnt shoot it becomes far more obvious than it already is who it instigating the killing and terrorism.

it was israel that left gaza..only to be rewarded with missiles.

the gaza residence may have had his/her fill of the sonic booms, artillery, etc....the address to stop them is clear: their own govt. It maybe difficult to stop blaming israel but this is pretty obvious.

and the pillboxes?..gaza has a border is clearly marked and again its up to the PA to patrol it and keep the kids away, its called responsibility.

8. up to the PA to patrol it
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/middle_east/5059180.stm

---------------

its clear neither side wants to stop the artillery, but while one side is "gang" terrorism... the other side is, well, govt sponsored. if it were the residence of sderot it would be another story.

9. actually
Edited on Fri Jun-16-06 03:28 PM by idontwantaname
realistically what would israel do if residence in sderot started firing artillery into gaza?
the IDF has always been reluctant to act on a fellow israelis offenses toward palestinians.

im curious... as normally they use the army to do their bidding.

10. realistically?
Edited on Fri Jun-16-06 03:34 PM by pelsar
the police would arrest the person(s)....as far as the "gangs" in gaza....its up to the PA/hamas to deal with them.....their society. Its not really relevant to the the citizens of sederot whos doing the shooting, but until they decide to actually stop it, any and all israeli responses "are on them"....

only they have the power to stop the exchange.....

as far as PA patrols...its rather confusing since some are infiltration attempts some arent....and they dont bother to coordinate with the IDF....bad idea on a tense border.

11. There would be much more sympathy for Israel today if they had not
fired rockets into a beach.. which caused "palestinians bombs to go off under a family" last week.
