World leaders denounce Hezbollah and Hamas

World leaders denounce Hezbollah and Hamas

Mike Blanchfield, CanWest News Service
Published: Sunday, July 16, 2006
ST. PETERSBURG — As news of eight Canadian deaths in Lebanon emerged Sunday, divided world leaders overcame significant differences to unanimously denounce Hezbollah and Hamas terrorists while urging Israel to exercise restraint in its military assault on Lebanon.

The G8 leaders produced their strongly worded statement after a marathon day of talks on the Israel-Lebanon crisis, demanding Hezbollah terrorists abandon shelling attacks on Israel and to join with Hamas in Gaza in freeing three Israeli soldiers captured by the two groups.

The G8 also called on Israel to “exercise utmost restraint” in its five-day-old military campaign against Lebanon.

News of the deaths of a Montreal family on vacation in Lebanon added a degree of poignancy to the leaders’ unanimous declaration of “our deepening concern . . . in particular the rising civilian casualties.”

3. if you think
the current government in power in israel is right wing, then you havent been paying much attention.

even their right wing is to the left of america's right wing and would be considered moderate or left wing in america. the only thing that can be considered "right wing" is the level of hawkishness. but considering that the war of independence, the 56 suez war, the 6 day war and the yom kippur war were all fought while the labor party was in power shows that "hawks" can be from the left or the right.

israel is at war against hamas and hizbollah. they are even going so far as to drop leaflets ahead of time about the bombing to war the civilians away.

israel is showing a ton of restraint. just imagine what they could do if the full power of the israeli armed forces was unleashed.
