TYRE, Lebanon, Aug 12, 2006 (AFP) - Hezbollah said Saturday it would respect a ceasefire as Israel poured thousands more troops into an open-ended offensive on Lebanon, despite a unanimous UN Security Council call for an end to the month-old war.
At least eight Lebanese civilians were killed in air attacks that also destroyed a power station in the south and hit roads leading to Syria in the north, while fierce fighting was reported as ground troops seized a border village.
Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah said the UN resolution was not fair, but that the Shiite movement would not stand in the way of its approval.
"We will not be an obstacle to any decision taken by the Lebanese government. Our government ministers will register reservations on the resolution and some of its terms," he said on Hezbollah's Al-Manar television.
