Haaretz: Poll: 81% of U.S. Jews believe Arabs want to destroy Israel

WASHINGTON - Eighty-one percent of American Jews believe that the real goal of the Arabs is the destruction of Israel and not the return of occupied land, according to the annual survey of the American Jewish Committee (AJC) on various issues.

While 54 percent said they supported the establishment of a Palestinian state, only 38 percent said Israel and the Arabs could solve the conflict peacefully. Another 56 percent said they believed the conflict could not be resolved.

1. Maybe because the Mid-East leaders all SAY they want ot destroy Israel

I kind of think they'd tend to take them at their word on that after a while.

Not to mention that the destruction of Israel is in the Hammas and Hezbolah charters.

What's amazing is that a significant number of people believe both that Arabs want to kill all of them, but also in a two-state solution-- with people they believe don't want to return the favor.

"You want to destroy me... but we want peace with you-- have some land."

Wow.

That takes guts.

dignity of being taken at their word. There are enough Arabs who have said they want all the land returned to Muslims/Arabs (depending on their ideology); generalizing to "all Arabs" may be wrong, but there's a limit to how many stipulations and caveats you can work into a simple question.

But I guess that makes the other 19% racist, with an "Arab's simply can't be taken at their word, they always lie."

(Actually, I think the truth is in-between: Some say what they mean, some say what's needed to be respectable, whether "death to the Jews" or "can't we all be friends".)
