Settlers defile Palestinian graves under IDF watch
Jewish settlers desecrate graves, wreak havoc in Palestinian village

http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-3356741,00.html

<snip>

"Death to Arabs" was just one of the hateful messages left by Jewish settlers on Muslim graves after a destructive rampage on a cemetery and village near Nablus Tuesday.

The defilement was carried out, according to residents of the village, under the IDF's watch.

The settlers destroyed graves, slashed tires of some 20 cars and smashed the windshields of five other cars after carrying out an annual ceremony in the village.

Each year, with Israel Defense Force protection, settlers arrive at the West Bank village of Awarta to hold a celebration for the sons of Aharon, Moses' brother, who are buried there according to Jewish tradition."

<snip>

"In response to a Ynetnews inquiry, an official IDF announcement said that as soon as the soldiers noticed what was going on, they removed the settlers from the site and prevented them from causing further damage.

"The IDF views such incidents very severely," said the announcement."

1. words fail me-- this is so horrible....
Do the Israelis really wonder why much of the rest of the world cannot support their oppression of Palestinians? This is SO wrong. I don't want to wish anyone ill, but Israeli settlers are a curse that imperils the entire middle east with their provocations. If Israel won't stop them, then they will bring the conflagration down upon themselves, and kill many innocents in the process.

6. your personal attacks reflect very poorly upon you....
Perhaps you should take a step back and reflect on how unseemly such bitterness appears.

7. Bitterness, Sir? Personal Attack?
Where do you possibly find either of those items in my brief comment to you?

Your reaction to a spree of bigoted vandalism was to claim you were shocked beyond the capability to employ language at the horror of it. This naturally leads one to wonder what possible room you could have for horror at, say, a woman in Darfur being gang-raped and then thrown onto a bonfire, or a few infants in Rawanda being dropped down into a cesspit to drown in fermenting filth, or any one of a wide variety of things human beings routinely do to one another down the ages and into the present day at many points on the globe.

9. Mere Assertion, Sir, However Often Repeated, Does Not Establish A Fact
The gentleman was not insulted: he was called on an exercise in hyperbolic emotional display.

10. Don't you think that "words fail me" is a little much?
I'm surely not defending these settlers, but I'm not sure that slashing tires, spray painting hateful messages on graves and breaking a few windshields calls for...

Israeli settlers are a curse that imperils the entire middle east with their provocations.

I mean, come on... a little perspective.

11. While I agree his statement is hyperbolic
you have to admit that grave defiling goes beyond (at least emotionally) other types of vandalism.

We occasionally get the teenagers driving through headstones crap here and it makes me ill.

12. I agree with that...
I found the original statement on the hyperbolic side, but I also find the defiling of any graves to be vandalism on a more disturbing level than the slashing of tyres and the breaking of windscreens....

3. Awaiting two things like clockwork:
1) IDF conducts internal investigation and finds no fault

2) Governemt spokesman expresses "deep, deep regret"

4. The Israeli Government, Sir
Is extraordinarily remiss in its duties as an occupying power to allow such incidents, and to fail to punish their perpetrators when they do occur.
