Israel Plans to Build 600 New Homes in Settlements
JERUSALEM, Oct. 2 — Israel announced today it intended to build about 600 new homes in three large West Bank settlements, a move that contradicts the current Middle East peace plan.

The announcement came a day after Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's government approved the construction of barriers deep inside the West Bank to guard Jewish settlements.

Palestinians expressed anger at both decisions, with Yasir Arafat, the Palestinian leader, calling the barrier a "wall of racism."

3. the embarrassment
that is the policy of Democrats towards Israel and the O.T. causes all discussion involving Israel to be hidden from mainstream attention as best as possible.

5. Anyone who is in favor of democracy...
...would frown on this behavior.

Give us the facts and open the discussion, and the people will decide! Anything less is undemocratic! Hear that, DU?!

16. Senator Schumer is my senator...
and that "CIA thing" may be what finally brings Bush down. Sorry if you think your opinion of Israel is more important than who's runing the US.

17. Last I looked, this was the I/P forum
Hence, I restrict commentary to Israel/Palestine.

As for the "CIA thing", I know all about it, and hope it brings Scooter/Rove/Bush down. I also support Schumer's efforts in this regard. Doesn't change the comment I made about him one jot.

4. Forget it
This already happened anyway.

Israel has published several tenders in the Israeli press recently. The most brazen was in Yediot (or Ma'ariv, I forget which), saying (in effect), "COME TO THE JORDAN VALLEY - FREE STUFF!"

The very first violation was the announcment of a new settlement in Abu Dis roughly two days or so after the Roadmap was published.

This is par for the course.

The shock is that anybody bothered to notice this particular case.

6. closer to the dream
The dream of capturing the rest of the O.T. - err, I mean, Judea and Sumaria. Why don't we all just start calling it that now anyway? The future history books will. All part of G-d's plan y'know.

9. Judea and Samaria - Israel's largest newspaper

Funny, I don't see the West Bank on there.

Don't the Pals get shit for not having Israel on their maps (even though they are)?

Weird that. Anybody would think there was a -gasp- double standard.

14. And who is paying for this shit?
We should cut aid to Israel, and the loans that are never paid back, for the same amount of money that Israel spends in the settlements and the occupation. Let Israeli taxpayers bear the true cost of the occupation and the idiotic squatters living in the settlements.
