Rafah Crossing: Will it open today? Will the Egyptians take a role?

Hamas spokesperson Fawzi Barhoum told Ma'an, "We consider the crossings agreement to be over after the European monitors left, and Hamas still insists that Egypt should play a role in managing the crossing."

no mention of the israelis...just that the old agreement is now "dead" and its up to the egyptians

just a general note when wanting to get info about hamas, google the spokesman: Fawzi Barhoum

____
a personal note: i found this whole arguement rather silly:
an armed militia takes over a land mass, goes to the border, kicks out the europeans, kicks out the border guards, is openly hostile to the fourth party (israel), the fifth party (egypt)says it will have nothing to do with the militia and posters here seem to think that "nothings changed" .....i guess i live in a different reality...in the middleast.

Correct me if I am wrong. It contains that same sentence.

For its part, the Hamas movement called anew on the Egyptians to play a role in reopening the crossing after the European monitors left due to the security situation.

Hamas spokesperson Fawzi Barhoum told Ma'an, "We consider the crossings agreement to be over after the European monitors left, and Hamas still insists that Egypt should play a role in managing the crossing."

Barhoum also disagreed with the suggestion that the Sharm Al-Shaikh summit might result in the Gaza crossings being opened.

The spokesman said: "We do not count on that meeting at all. We do not expect Abbas to demand opening the crossings or pose that issue. We expect him to ask for more pressures on the unity government in the Gaza Strip."

snip

PS I agree with you. There was a bombing at another crossing, a cargo crossing, earlier this week. If people want crossings open, stop bombing them, stop shooting at them, stop chasing guards away, etc. You can't have it both ways! It seems some people want it both ways.

basically if one accepts that egypt can relieve the suffering by letting trucks in with food and if they do it, it really screws up the "gaza is a prison, occupation still exists, israel is responsable and its all israels fault"..hence the massive denials found on the earlier threads. (as well as the blogs, ISM etc....its quite an amazing feat actually, kind of group denial of what should be a basic principle for a "progressive"

its as if, all of a sudden humanitarian aid becomes secondary to a border inport/export clause......strange view for a "progressive community"......Let the palestenians starve, limited medical treatment because a piece of paper says "all parties must agree, even if the EU monitors are staying in their hotel rooms 30km away and no longer come to work"......
