Hamas bans Israeli produce in Gaza
Hamas's Finance Ministry on Monday barred Israeli fruits and vegetables from entering the Gaza Strip on Monday, according to the spokesman for the Fruit Growers Association.

The move is likely to cost Israeli fruit growers NIS 3-5 million a day, according to the association.

The Hamas decision will also make it harder for Palestinians to keep fruits and vegetables in their diet, particularly those items not grown in Gaza, according to Shlomo Dror, spokesman for the Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories.

Upon hearing that Palestinian private contractors on the Gaza side of the Kerem Shalom crossing planned to adhere to the prohibition, Israeli businessmen did not send out the scheduled 60 trucks of produce, Dror told The Jerusalem Post. The fruit and vegetable ban is the latest in a set of anti-Israel moves by Hamas, including continued mortar fire on the crossing, to keep Kerem Shalom closed.

1. brilliant move....
i'm getting to "like hamas" more and more. First they prefer to have palestenains wait and have some even die while waiting for egypt to let them in. When israel volunteers to help, they turn them down..now this

now they dont want israeli vegis, when they're already in crises health mode...so why do i "like them"....hamas is making it just so damn clear that the problem is not israel but themselves.

now i realize for those who have the "blame israel religion' it will change little, but it will make them look a bit foolish....

2. Hamas' rise to power in Gaza certainly clarifies things a bit
We're no longer left to wonder what things would look like if the extremists took over in the West Bank, for instance.

9. How long do you think it will be before they tell Israel they don't want
Israel making deliveries of other food and other aid.

3. Perhaps Israel can just "Air Drop" fruits and vegetables for humanitarian relief
Imagine... a sky full of fruit raining down on little parachutes with "Made in Israel" stickers.

5. So this move is considered "anti-Israel" but the anti-Palestinian moves Israel has engaged in are ok

7. no....this further clarifies the situation...
that much of the problem lies with the palestenains/hamas..for the crises in gaza.......whatever their problems, they're only making it worse.

the kassams were excused as being no more than a "nuisance"
attacks on the borders werent even mentioned
the egyptian/gaza border was always ignored when it came to the "israeli siege of gaza"
human rights were always violated by israel...
_____

well we have some clarity and its even getting clearer:

kassams can kill and terrorize
its actually the egyptians that want their border closed....and hamas prefers that palestenains die before entering via israel
hamas and "human rights?..tossing someone off of a building, executions in front of their families.....(and no calls for justice?) is the hamas way

and now we have this:....no food in gaza?....and they refuse israeli vegis...

---------

its getting a bit difficult to blame israel for the current food/human crises in gaza, isnt it?....though i'm sure many will find a way.

10. Why don't you deal with the humanitarian aid problem here.
Edited on Tue Jul-10-07 11:29 PM by barb162
Delivering FOOD to people who keep indicating they're running low on food. And who the hell is Hamas to be deciding for other Palestinians what kind of fruit and veggies they want?

11. Notice that little thing about "continued mortar fire" at the crossing?

"The fruit and vegetable ban is the latest in a set of anti-Israel moves by Hamas, including continued mortar fire on the crossing, to keep Kerem Shalom closed."

Unbelievable action by Hamas against the self-interest of the Palestinian people.
