'Clock Ticks' for Arafat After Israeli Raid in Syria
Yasser Arafat's fate hung in the balance on Sunday after an Israeli air strike in Syria eased domestic pressure on Israel's government to exile him, a move the United States fears would inflame the Middle East.

Israel has not said how or when it might prise Arafat from his headquarters, half-demolished after army raids, and acknowledges that an assault could endanger his life. Arafat has said he would rather die than give himself up.

Deputy Prime Minister Ehud Olmert said the bombing -- before the solemn Yom Kippur fast day -- was not "just another" attack.

In a veiled reference to Arafat, Olmert said: "If Israel reaches the conclusion that it must take serious action it will have to do it and the world will have to accept it."

We always hear how the old weasel would die a martyr. Yet when danger comes, he is frantic to save himself.

1. Which is one reason I doubt he support terrorism...
there's little to gain, and a lot to lose.

Since I have yet to see real evidence to contest it...

4. What about Sharon?
I wish Sharon had spent time in jail for his crimes (Sabra & Shatila) , but unfortunately he even became PM. So much as far as justice is concerned...

5. Sharon is responsible for more than Sabra and Shatila...
the bombardment of Beirut, for instance, which also caused many civilian casualties.

6. Yeah
I know. I just put Sabra & Shatila as an example. And the sickening double standards as for war crimes and terrorism. Expecting ones to be hold responsible for their actions while virtually ignoring anything done by the other side.

9. war criminals
What does have WAR to do with anything? If my country was headed by a person that was found responsible by it's own system (commission) for war crimes I would be ashamed!

It's speculated that that's why the IDF/IAF attacked the USS Liberty.

but he can hardly be given all the credit for that; across decades Israeli 'intelligence' has racked up a mighty record of such as well.

19. WOW!!!
I love these wild and weird conspiracy theories. Anymore to share? How about alien abduction? Maybe it's all a plot by Hitler to undermine democracy? Maybe the sea-monsters assisinated RFK and not a Palestinian? Mmmmmmmm endless possibilities. Actually Jimmy Hoffa is behind the whole shebang!

20. Huh?
Is it a "conspiracy theory," in your view, that the CIA organized a coup to bring back the Shah in Iran?

22. Stop being sarcastic...
you seem to be denying that "intelligence" agencies like the CIA and the Mossad take actions for the "security" of the state that don't follow any moral code whatsoever. You seem to be dismissing any evidence as such as conspiracy theories.

SO, I repeat the question: Did the CIA arrange a coup in Iran to bring the Shah back to power, or is that a conspiracy theory?

Edited on Tue Oct-07-03 10:40 AM by Aidoneus
How did Khalil al-Wazir die then? Ghassan Khanafani? Kamal Adwan? Salah Khalaf? Abu Youssef? Kamal Nasser? Ali Salameh?

Or dozens of others.. spontaneous combustion, perhaps? What is untrue or a "conspiracy theory" about any of this (besides you being ridiculous and evasive)? Arafat is a rank amateur by comparison.

16. Hmm
But then if Ariel Sharon, who was adjudicated to be "personally responsible" by Israel's own Kahane commission for Sabra and Shatila is a war criminal as well and would then be by your logic also a valide target, right? Being a criminal even by Israeli standards...
