Hamas vows retaliation against Israel
<http://english.aljazeera.net/NR/exeres/8A1945E4-363D-4265-800A-22157C48214A.htm>
The Palestinian resistance group Hamas has vowed to retaliate against Israel for its air raid inside Syria.

Izz al-Din al-Qassam, the armed wing of Hamas, threatened on Sunday to respond to an Israeli air strike earlier in the day it said targeted a Palestinian refugee camp.

"Our response to this serious escalation will be one of deterrence and it will happen soon in the depths of the criminal Zionist entity," its said in a statement.

Things are looking kind of ugly. I hope for the best, as we all do.

16. About as long as Israel has occupied Palestinian territory.
Hmm. Of course the Arabs are to blame for everything.

18. What an odd coincidence
Here I was, thinking that 55 years was the length of time that Palestinians had been occupying Israeli territory, and that people should really stop blaming the Jews for everything. ;-)

Sharon and Arafat are a couple of thugs -- maybe we could ship The Shrub and Scchwarzenegger to Israel?

27. Sure...
just like those obstreperous Cherokee, Sioux, Nez Perce, Paiute, and other natives were occupying American territory back in the nineteenth century. If you want to assign blame here, it belongs to both parties. Neither side is without fault.

28. I'm in very limited agreement with you
The Israelis -- unlike the imperialist United States of the 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries, who slaughtered the "Cherokee, Sioux, Nez Perce, Paiute, and other natives" -- did not start the war that led to the conquest/annexation of territory. I am so rabidly pro-Israel that I don't even think that the West Bank/Gaza is occupied; as far as I'm concerned, it's Israeli property now, and will continue to be so as long as they can keep it.

Have the Israelis NEVER done anything wrong? No, of course not. The difference is, IMO, is that the Israelis are acting in self-defense.

That having been said:

Why are the Israelis/Palestinians still fighting over whose fault it was? You'd think that, after 50+ years, SOMEONE there would be willing to put aside their differences long enough to stop shooting at one another.

I really thought that there was a chance. Rabin got murdered, Barak lost the election... I think that Arafat is a common thug, a terrorist -- and Sharon's not much better.

Does Israel have the right to defend itself? Yes, but they have the OBLIGATION to use diplomacy, something their current leadership is apparently unable to even comprehend.

29. I think we agree here.
The state of Israel has a right to exist, and a right to defend itself. I dispute neither. But in order to bring the situation to some sort of resolution, they also have the responsibility to own some of the blame. Both sides are right, to an extent, both are wrong, to an extent. And the inability of either to admit to the latter, to compromise, to seek mutual understanding and common ground, leads to the ever-escalating spiral of hatred, resentment, violence and retaliation, with no end in sight.

I keep hoping people will be BETTER...and I keep getting disappointed. Bah.

36. Israel TRIED diplomacy
Arafat rejected it, and continues to reject it. Barak offered him everything he said he wanted, but he's made it clear the only thing he really wants is the destruction of Israel, and he'll happilly sacrifice the lives of a million Palestinians to try to get it.

Until Arafat is gone, the ONLY thing that Israel can do is defend itself the best it can - Arafat's policy of responding to concessions with more terrorism leaves them no other choice!:grr:

9. Well, now that gasoline has been poured upon it
how can it ever flame out and begin to be put out?

And that's what the Busheviks have done...pour gasoline on the Middle east.

Naturally, being Totalitarians, they said they did it to "increase the peace", but that was as much as a "war is peace" type of lie as the Busheviks have told since way before Sept. 11.

15. Gee Thanks Conservatives...this is how preemption and escaltaion is
SUPPOSED TO WORK. They kill your people because you were going to kill their people. Then you kill their people because they killed your people. Then they kill your people because you killed their people.

The Neo-Con tactics at work. Just let Israel kill them all, because it'll stop terrorism...except when you stop and consider, retaliation WILL NEVER WORK BECAUSE IT HAS NEVER WORKED.

26. What a ridiculous assertion by Izz al-Dib al-Qassam
"Any assault on any Arab and Muslim country is an assault on the Palestinian people, part of the Arab and Muslim nation," the statement said.

Oh, OK. So a strike against any Muslim country is an attack on the Palestinians, a component part of the greater holistic entity, the Muslim 'nation'.

"After the Haifa martyrdom attack, the criminal enemy has attempted to export its internal crisis caused by the Palestinian resistance so they launched an air attack on Syria targeting places for Palestinian refugees."

But if the Palestinians attack Israel, it's 'exporting an internal crisis', and now suddenly the Palestinians are not part of, representative of or acting on behalf of the Muslim 'nation', and therefore any of their bases, facilities and personnel located outside of Israel are somehow, ambiguously, off-limits.

Not the brainiest spokesman they could have chosen.

hamas is nothing but a pack of cowards that enjoy murdering women and children that don't fight back. The sooner Israel completly wipes out the hamas vermin the better.

Any and all groups funding hamas should be dealt with too. hamas is about to become a has-been terrorist group.
