Israel makes arrests in alleged plot against Bush
JERUSALEM (Reuters) - Israel accused six Arabs on Friday of trying to set up an al Qaeda cell in Israel and said one of them had proposed attacking helicopters used during a visit by President George W. Bush.

Israel's Shin Bet counter-intelligence agency said one of the suspects had used his mobile phone to film helicopters at a sports stadium in Jerusalem that was used as a landing site for Bush's delegation.

The Shin Bet identified four of the suspects as Palestinian residents of Arab East Jerusalem and two as Israeli Arabs.

The Shin Bet said the men had met several times at Jerusalem's al-Aqsa mosque, seeking to organize a local al Qaeda network. The agency said computers seized from several of the suspects contained bomb-making manuals.

7. Israelis priming the pump to obstruct the Obama meeting with Abbas perhaps?
It worked quite well a few days ago when Blair was to visit Gaza and Shin Bet claimed a 'specific threat' against him.

imho, the israelis are going to do whatever they can to see to it that Obama doesn't show up in Ramallah.

8. I doubt it...

I am quite sure that Blair and Bush arouse a great deal of hostility in the Middle East, and those groups that are prone to violence are liable to threaten them.

I always thought Blair was a dreadful choice for envoy, partly because he's a dreadful choice for almost anything, and partly because he has so much negative baggage with the Middle East that he would at best be ineffective, and at worst end up in danger (perhaps endangering others in the process). Obviously I don't condone assassination threats; but whoever appointed him to the job should have known this was likely to happen.

No need to assume that the threats were invented by anyone. Sometimes threats are just that - not false flags.

his visit to Ramallah will be the photo op of the week for at least some Israeli and American media. If you read Israeli media one can get the idea that Obama is not the first choice for US president (could be a lot right wing advertising too) and the more Obama can be seen rubbing shoulders with Palestinians the more he can be played as "anti-Israel" this is especially true after his Jerusalem statements, which will most likely be mentioned in any story about his visit.
