Bulldozer driver attempts to recreate Jerusalem rampage
By JPOST.COM STAFF

A bulldozer driver went on a rampage in central Jerusalem Tuesday afternoon in an apparent attempt to recreate the terror attack in the capital a few weeks ago.

The bulldozer reportedly left a construction site near Yemin Moshe near King David St., and turned over two cars, injuring two people, one of them seriously.

Police said the driver crashed into a city bus and hit two cars before he was shot dead by a civilian.

On July 2, a resident of east Jerusalem rammed a bulldozer into cars, buses and pedestrians on one of Jerusalem's busiest streets, killing three people and wounding at least 45 others - including a six-month-old baby girl - before being shot dead by security personnel.

1. Further details......close to Obama's hotel
A bulldozer driver went on a rampage in downtown Jerusalem on Tuesday, wounding five people, just weeks after a similar attack in the capital left three dead.

One of the wounded was in moderate condition and the rest sustained light wounds. They were taken to Shaare Zedek Hospital in Jerusalem for treatment.

The driver of the tractor struck a bus and at least two cars before being shot dead by security forces, Jerusalem police said.

The copycat attack occurred on the corner of Keren Hayesdod and King David streets in dowtown Jerusalem, down the road from the hotel where U.S. Democratic presidential hopeful Barack Obama was to be staying later in the day.

"The bulldozer driver left a construction site, and hit two cars," a police spokesman said.

"A civilian who saw what was happening, shot him. The bulldozer continued on its way. A Border Police patrol... continued to shoot and the terrorist was killed," the spokesman said. "Another person was wounded."

An eyewitness to the event said that the whole incident took place in less than a few minutes.

" tried to lower the blade of the bulldozer onto the head of a pedestrian, but missed her by an inch. At first I thought it was an accident, but then he kept going in a zig zag down the slope of King David, overturned a car and hit a few cars. The whole thing happened very quickly. One car flipped over and others were crushed."

On July 2, a Palestinian resident of East Jerusalem plowed a bulldozer down Jaffa Road, Jerusalem's main thoroughfare, killing three people. He was not know to be affiliated with any Palestinian militant group.

It was not immediately clear who carried out the attack Tuesday.

14:54 Bulldozer driver named as Hassan Abu Tir, relative of Hamas man Mohammed Abu Tir (Israel Radio)

(IsraelNN.com) For the second time in three weeks, an Arab commandeered a bulldozer to commit a terrorist attack in Jerusalem. He wounded several people before being shot and killed.

The terrorist began his attempt to murder Jews on King David St. near the Yemin Moshe neighborhood. He took a tractor from a construction site, and began plowing into vehicles along the street, hitting three cars and a bus. When he reached the intersection of Keren HaYesod St., a citizen and Border Guard policeman shot and killed him. The entire incident was over very quickly, eyewitnesses said.

Of the 12 injured, one is reported in moderate condition - apparently with an amputated leg - and the others have light injuries or are suffering from trauma. Among them are a woman and her nine-month-old baby son.

The dead tractor terrorist was an Israeli citizen, living in a south-eastern Jerusalem Arab neighborhood not far from Sur Baher.

Moshe Feiglin, leader of the Likud's Manhigut Yehudit faction, was an eyewitness to the attack. He told Voice of Radio that his first impression of the attack was the tractor-shovel attempting to drop down upon a passerby. "At first I thought it was some kind of accident, but very quickly we realized that it was an attack. Thank G-d, it ended very quickly, because of the alertness of passersby who shot him - I saw a youth I know from the southern Judea community of Susia, who does not want me to mention his name, but he was the first one to shoot the terrorist, and then the Border Guard policeman came and finished the story."

"We have long called for a policy of not hiring Arabs in construction," said Shifra Hoffman of Victims of Arab Terror. "We hold the government guilty of this attack for not implementing this policy."

to have no regard for human life, and to try to kill people with whatever means they have,

The insanity and sickness of the terrorist culture, personified.

4. Rachel Corrie comes to mind
Lest anyone think the Palestinians have a monopoly on using bulldozers as weapons, Rachel Corrie was a young American peace activist crushed and killed by an Israeli bulldozer in 2005.

5. Trust somebody to make a faux comparison like that.
Moral relativism at its slimiest best; or do you think these people put themselves deliberately in line of the machine?

6. I'm not sure what you're trying to say
Are you saying it's okay for Israelis to kill people with bulldozers, but not okay for Palestinians to kill people with bulldozers?

7. Rachel was an accident. This was not. Her death was tragic but
can in no way be compared to this and the former deliberate carnage.

8. They SAID it was an accident
but since neither you nor I was there at the scene, how can we know for certain?

I think it was pretty horrible to mow down a 23-year-old woman like that.

9. There is plenty of info and video footage on the net

which shows that indeed it was an accident. I suggest you do some research unless you are convinced that it is a waste of your time because you know Israelis can only lie and cover-up.

What, is there are script somewhere? Talking points?

Accident? Right.

12. Do you think the Arab terrorist rampage on bulldozer was an accident?
As he plowed into crowds of people, injuring and killing?

There is no doubt whatsoever about the intent of both of these latest bulldozer rampages.

Rachel Corrie should have gotten out of the way when repeatedly warned.

Regrettable as her death is, it is her own stupidity that cost her her life.

The people in the way of the terrorist driven bulldozers in Jerusalem were not lucky enough to have warning of their impending doom.

15. Motioned her to cross and the stepped on the gas
"The first person to encounter the bulldozer terrorist on Tuesday was an English-speaking woman named Sarah who was about to cross the street. The man in the bulldozer indicated with his hand that she could cross and then press on the gas pedal to run her over. Fortunately, she was only lightly bruised by the tire and treated at Bikur Holim Hospital, which admitted five injured - all of them lightly wounded - to the emergency room."

16. ...The third time he aimed for my head,
A Palestinian bulldozer driver went on a rampage in downtown Jerusalem on Tuesday, wounding at least 24 people, just weeks after a similar attack in the capital left three dead.

The driver was identified as a 22-year-old resident of East Jerusalem who held an Israeli ID card. Police sealed off possible escape routes into the predominantly Arab area of Jerusalem and were searching for two suspects who fled the scene, police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld said.

The driver of the bus said he was chased by the assailant, who raised the shovel of his front-end loader.

"I was driving on the main road when the (construction vehicle) hit me in the rear, on the right hand side," driver Avi Levi said.

"After I passed him he turned round, made a U-turn and rammed the windows twice with the shovel. The third time he aimed for my head, he came up to my window and I swerved to the right, otherwise I would have gone to meet my maker," Levi said.

Witness Moshe Shimshi said the driver of the construction vehicle, who was wearing a large, white skullcap commonly worn by religious Muslims, slammed into the side of the bus, then sped away and went for a car.

"He didn't yell anything, he just kept ramming into cars," Shimshi said.

"The driver then headed for cars waiting at a red light and rammed into them with all his might," he added.

Shimshi said he stopped his motorcycle and ran toward the construction vehicle when he saw another man running at it from another direction.

The civilian who shot the terrorist that steered the bulldozer has been identified as Ya'akov Asahel, a 53-year-old resident of the West Bank settlement of Susya in the southern Hebron hills.

17. Settler grandpa saves the day
Yaakov Asael, 53-year-old grandfather of six, kills rampaging bulldozer driver

Published: 07.22.08, 16:43 / Israel News

Yaakov Asael, a resident of the Susiya settlement in southern Mount Hebron is Tuesday's hero. Asael shot and killed the terrorist who carried out the bulldozer attack in Jerusalem earlier in the day

Fifty-three-year-old Asael is an IDF reserves company commander, a father of eight, grandfather of six, and a teacher.

Ayelet Recanati, Asael’s daughter, told Ynet that her father is “resourceful."

"He was a military man in commanding positions in combat units, in the armored corps," she said.

“He is a bible teacher and an agriculturalist but has studied judo his whole life. He is a Jewish Israeli who combines the Torah and labor and tremendous politeness," she said.

"He grasps things quickly, he has intuition regarding people and he most likely understood what was going on quickly," she added. "He always carries a gun. For as long as I can remember him, he has carried a gun. Nowadays, a gun is needed everywhere, in Susiya, Jerusalem, Hadera and in Tel Aviv. As long as we don't exude strength, we will need means of defense.”

13. Not my fault you can't understand the concept as used here.
It's not a red herring when the comparison is OBVIOUSLY faux. The nature of the two events is distinctly different.

18. Rachel Corrie put herself in harms way in a war zone.
These people were just going to work. Corrie's death was an accident, the attacks in Jerusalem were deliberate. Big difference.
