Australia drops threat to sue Ahmadinejad for inciting against Israel
Australia on Wednesday withdrew a threat to take the Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to the International Court of Justice for inciting violence against Israel.

Foreign Minister Stephen Smith said his government had mulled over the option for months before deciding that a trial could distract attention from international efforts to end Iran's nuclear program.

"We determined to avoid pursuing a case which would give further profile to these obscene remarks," Smith told Parliament.

"Most importantly, the Australian government would not want such legal action to complicate or distract from the international community's efforts to address the serious concerns about Iran's nuclear program," he said.

Y'know, I voted for these guys and I'm really glad they're in power, but why aren't they calling for Bush to be indited for war crimes?

I don't think our Foreign Minister has worked out yet that it'd be impossible for anything the Australian govt does or says in the international arena to distract from anything seeing as how no-one takes any notice of Australia. I saw a funny photo of Smith addressing an almost empty UN General Assembly and the few who were sitting through it looked like they were dozing off...
