Lieberman, Arab Americans Spar Over Israel

U.S. Sen. Joseph Lieberman ceded no ground in his vocal support of Israel on Friday, drawing a hostile reaction as he addressed a gathering of Arab-Americans in this Detroit suburb.

Lieberman, the first of seven Democratic presidential candidates scheduled to speak at the Arab American Institute's national leadership conference, refused to criticize Israeli policies and insisted on the need for Palestinians "to dismantle the terrorist infrastructure."

His comments drew such a vehement response that James Zogby, head of the Arab American Institute, had to intervene twice to calm the audience of several hundred so that Lieberman could continue.

Hecklers interrupted him several times, demanding to know his position on what they described Israeli "terrorism" and on Israel's planned security fence through the West Bank.

"What about the wall?" shouted one woman.

Israel says it needs the security fence to keep out suicide bombers, but critics describe it as a new "Berlin Wall" and a land grab.

A chorus of moans could be heard when Lieberman said "the wall is temporary" and would be torn down when Israel and a contiguous Palestinian state live side-by-side in peace...

Stand tall for Israel? Ha! At least Kucinich is calling a spade for a spade.

Kucinich should know better. After all he is a real progressive...

People gathered to hear Lieberman, not their ranting. Kucinich is small in stature and influence. Joe Lieberman is an influential Democrat.

Lieberman is a conservative Democrat. Kucinich is a real progressive.

It is a road to nowhere. The Democrats are not on it.

Aside from when he fails to stand up for little Israel's right-wing government that controls one of the most powerful militaries in the world, and when he fails to stand up for Bush's ilegitimate, immoral, unjustified, and fraudulent campaign of terrorism in Iraq?

Obviously you would love them to the right with Lieberman. Hopefully that is not going to happen...

but it's happening right now, somewhat.

Despite the backing of the DNC, Lieberman can't raise money and has very little popular support, despite desparately trying to suck up to the establishment at every opportunity.

Maybe because it's because he's such an obvious fraud. Maybe it's because his repulsive "piousness" turns people off, like when he said,

"The First Amendment guarantees freedom OF religion, not freedom FROM religion,"

which only goes to show that this very small little man doesn't comprehend the First Amendment, along with a plethora of other issues that people of principle like Kucinich care about more than they care about being President.

In any event, Lieberman has no chance. None. Zero. Nada.
