Hamas's Meshaal urges new intifada against Israel
<snip>

"Exiled Hamas leader Khaled Meshaal called on Saturday for Palestinians to wage a new intifada against Israel, including a return to suicide missions.

In an interview on Al-Jazeera television, Meshaal said: "We called for a military intifada against the enemy. Resistance will continue through suicide missions."

Hamas has not carried out a suicide attack on Israel since January 2005.

The first intifada, or uprising, broke out in 1988, and was followed by the 1993 Oslo peace accords, which led to a certain degree of Palestinian autonomy with the creation of the Palestinian Authority.

A second intifada broke out in 2000 and eventually ran out of steam three years later.

Meshaal said Hamas had accepted "all the peaceful options, but without results."

3. More LBN: Half of DU also urges new intifada against Israel
Wonder if this one will bring the Palestinians great improvements in their quality of life like it does every other time they choose violence. We'll see!

9. "Improvements in their lives"... like an hour a day in the prison yard for
exercise time?

This is a battle against Israel's ungoing violent military occupation and tyranny. This is not about removing a checkpoint or two... or allow Gazan slave labor back into Israel.

4. What is needed
is the other Arab nations in the Middle East to wake up and help the Palestinians. Israel doesn't now and never will want peace. They want the land they think some god in their bible deeded to them. utterly ridiculous.

13. The Arabs don't care about the Palestinians
they are handy pawns that whip up hatred of Israel and keep their populations from paying attention to the despotic regimes that rule them. Where did you get the notion that the Arabs want peace?

15. That is a key point
The Arab and Muslim nations have always treated the Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank as less than their own. No sign of that changing any time soon. There is no solidarity or brotherhood to be found there.

protesting the massacre of their sisters and brothers in Gaza.

11. Bethlehem douses Christmas lights over Gaza strikes
Edited on Sat Dec-27-08 08:35 PM by Scurrilous
<snip>

"Christmas lights will be shut off around Bethlehem, including those on the city's giant Christmas tree, to protest Israel's deadly attacks in Gaza, its mayor said on Saturday.

"We have decided to shut off the decorative lights and the Christmas tree to protest against the massacres committed in Gaza," Victor Batarseh told AFP.

"Israel has sabotaged the holidays with these massacres," he said.

The Christmas tree stands in front of the Church of the Nativity, where Christians believe Jesus Christ was born more than 2,000 years ago. It normally stays lit until the Orthodox Nativity celebrations in early January."

Violent protests start in West Bank

<snip>

"Violent demonstrations broke out in several West Bank regions yesterday to protest the Israeli air raids on the Gaza Strip, which reportedly killed more than 200 Palestinians.

The demonstrations, which occurred in places where Palestinians and Israelis come into contact, led to stone throwing and clashes with the Israel Defense Forces.

Protesters threw stones at the Qalandia checkpoint and the Shuafat refugee camp in the Jerusalem area, as well as in Hebron and in Ramallah in the West Bank. Soldiers responded with rubber bullets and tear gas to disperse demonstrators.

In Ramallah, dozens of Palestinians clashed with Israeli soldiers near the settlement of Beit El, to the north of the city. Soldiers who came to push back the Palestinian protesters fired tear gas and rubber bullets.

The Palestinian police also intervened to keep the demonstrators away from Israeli troops, creating a buffer zone.

Several people were treated for tear gas inhalation in the Beit El area. None were seriously injured.

In Hebron, dozens of Palestinians threw rocks at the Israeli soldiers in the old city and Shuhada Street. There were no reports of serious injuries.

Stone throwing was also reported in several villages in the West Bank. Again, no injuries were reported.

Workers in West Bank cities and East Jerusalem staged a general strike yesterday, which is expected to continue today."

19. But the Israeli Arabs will just "protest"
They wouldn't trade their lives in Israel for a life in a new Palestinian state though.

18. Palestinian killed by IDF during Na'alin protest

During the rally demonstrators threw stones at an IDF force, which responded with crowd-control measures and live fire. The army has launched an investigation into the incident.

According to a Palestinian medic, Arafat Hawaja, 22, was killed after being hit by a bullet in his chest."

20. So they shot protesters, shoot to kill, right?
Even the Palestinian medics habitually use the passive voice, or maybe it's the translation. You'd think it was like the weather. Bullets are just floating around, and sometimes they hit protesters in the chest, and then they are killed. Nothing about IDF troops shooting stone-throwing protesters dead. He 'sustained a fatal bullet wound", not he was shot through the chest.
