A few people have mentioned that the Israeli press, even right-wing press, is much more skeptical of Israeli actions than the press here in the US. I wanted to contribute to that line by posting the excerpt from a WSJ article in which I read that 55% of Israelis view the attacks as motivated by politics. There's been a lot of back and forth on the boards today about rockets and bombs and terrorism and tit-for-tat, but arguing it on that level simply accepts the offered narrative of the leaders who are acting for personal/professional gain (thank god that could never happen here, right?). In Israel itself, however, it appears the people aren't so ready to accept official explanations on their face.
The Gaza attacks so far are playing well among Israelis, though many view the timing with cynicism. A Dec. 26 poll published in Israel's largest newspaper showed that 55% of respondents felt that the government's actions in Gaza would be motivated by "political considerations," rather than other factors.
