Occupation troops also searched the nearby offices of a the Al Jazeera satellite television station in the village of El-Bireh , Palestinian witnesses said. The station also broadcast live footage of an Israeli officer arguing with Al Jazeera correspondents and staffers.

Elsewhere in the West Bank, Israeli forces stormed the towns of Anabta, Kifl Malek, Ein Yabroud and other smaller villages in the northern West Bank.

The Israeli government described the operation in Ramallah as “limited in scope,” saying it was aimed at “apprehending terrorists.”

PA official Ahmed Abdul Rahman said the life of PA President Arafat was in danger, pointing out that Israeli undercover soldiers were taking positions in the vicinity of Arafat’s headquarters.

He castigated international and Arab silence at what is happening in Palestine.

“They are killing us with their F-60s, they are killing us with their apaches, they are destroying our homes, they are terrorizing our people, and nobody seems to care,” said Abdul Rahman during a televised interview with the Qatari satellite Television, al Jazeera.

On Monday, Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon said he would seek to expedite the “removal” of Arafat from the political arena.

Moreover, Israeli press sources indicated that Sharon was planning a wide- scale incursion into Palestinian population center in the coming few weeks for the purpose of achieving what was described as “a qualitative turning point” in the conflict with the Palestinians.

Comment: This could wind up very ugly and dangerous for both peoples.

That's the IDF for you.

Sure, let's send them more missiles to murder innocent people with. Let's send them bulldozers to destroy homes and murder any peace activist that gets in the way, as in the case of Rachel Corrie. Let's stock their bullet supply as best we can to make sure they don't miss rifling down those scampering Palestinian "cockroaches" (as one Israeli official once described them).

Cause, y'know, ya just gotta respect one group of terrorists, but obviously not the other (the Arabs). It's the Democratic way of moving forward in the I/P debate.

Personally, I like calling things by their names; it's IDF for me, however innacurate the name is.

Personally, I can't decide if membership in an organization that commits terrorist acts on a regular basis (like, for example, the IDF) gets each individual member the right to be labelled "terrorist". What do you think?

Yes, there are refuseniks, but you can see all they've been facing in the past few weeks. Not many people have the courage to endure that.

Personally, I think a person should be judged on his actions, not on what group he is part of, whether membership in that group is voluntary or not.
