Hamas accused of torture death of Gaza critic
GAZA, Jan 29 (Reuters) - A Palestinian man on Thursday accused Islamist Hamas militants in control of the Gaza Strip of torturing and killing his brother for publicly criticising them.

Osama Atallah, a teacher, was a supporter of the Fatah movement of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, the sworn enemy of Hamas, whose gunmen drove Fatah militia out of Gaza in 2007 and fought Israel's army in a three-week war this month.

His brother Bassam said masked gunmen in two jeeps arrived at the family home in the city of Gaza on Tuesday. They identified themselves as members of Hamas internal security and they arrested his brother Osama.

Bassam said the Hamas security service told the Atallah family Osama would be released in a matter of hours. But a Hamas government official, who is also a member of the Atallah family, later denied the teacher was in custody.

1. Is this why we hear more Israeli self-criticism than we do from Hamas?
Imagine a Gaza equivalent of Ha'aretz. They'd be resting in ha'aretz, if you know what I mean.

3. Doesn't surprise me
If anything I am more surprised there aren't more of these killings. How many Fatah collaborators did they kill? Last I heard it was 19 to 21.

5. Were they not members of Fatah?
The PA said as much.

6. That's not the part of "Fatah collaborator" that is problematic
It's the collaborator part - the claim that they collaborated with Israel against Hamas.

This accusation may have been a pretext for Hamas to eliminate members of Fatah, whether or not they did any "collaborating" with Israel.

7. The number I heard of Fatah members killed was in the 20s
And the PA admitted that they were part of Fatah. Is this not the same thing you heard, or are you seeing future problems?

8. just saying,

when Hamas wins about 44% to 41% over Fatah in elections 2 years ago, that makes for LOTS of "collaborators" Hamas can use as pawns to fight Israel.

Also, when nearly half the population is Fatah and Palestinian "sympathizers" shrug when Hamas uses or abuses them, what does that say about their credibility when these same apathetic sympathizers go into conniptions blaming Israel for Palestinian suffering? Looks like faux sympathy.

10. There is some kind of retribution going on inside Gaza
although it's hard to know how much and what kind in all the bullshit.

AJ ran a report yesterday that I caught on "Mosaic" of a man who'd been shot in his leg and left on the street. There was no editorializing at all and there was some video. I tend to believe it.

12. al Jazeera. I don't know if you watch "Mosaic", but it's a compilation
of local news from the Middle East and it runs on Link. I think you can also watch it at their website.
