Report: Fatah to oppose recognizing Israel as Jewish state
The Palestinian Fatah faction plans to oppose recognizing Israel as a Jewish state and consider opening a strategic dialogue with Iran, according to details from a proposed draft of its political platform that were leaked to the Arab press on Saturday.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has conditioned the establishment of a Palestinian state upon recognition by the Palestinians of Israel as a Jewish state.

Various drafts outlining Fatah's party platform will be voted on by Fatah delegates at its general summit that is scheduled to take place on Tuesday in Bethlehem.

The draft leaked on Saturday also calls for Fatah supporters to use civil disobedience in its struggle with Israel, including limited violence against settlements and the West Bank separation fence, as well as against what it calls the Judaization of Jerusalem.

1. Nuttinyahoo must be living in the 1970s. The Palestinians have recognized and re-recognized and re-
re-recognized Israel as Jewish state since the early 1980s.

He and Likud just want the Palestinians' land. And he would probably admit it to your face.

6. That's why Nutty changed the goal-posts...
It's no longer about recognising Israel's right to exist, but got changed to recognising Israel as a Jewish state. And once they got that, they'd just change the goalposts again. It's not up to Fatah to define what sort of state Israel is. It's solely up to Israel, and Israel's already done it, so Nutty should quit his obstructionist bullshit...

3. Can you honestly not see why this would be problematic for the Arab Muslims and Christians who
were displaced from their homeland to do? Honestly?

7. You didn't answer the question you got asked...
It sounded like the script from an episode of Star Trek where someone's greeting some strange alien race that's just been discovered...

12. I'll NEVER retract my statement about *Make Peace And Prosper* sounding like a Trekkie moment!!!
Oh, yr not talking about that and yr talking to the person doing the slightly wrong Vulcan greeting? I think to give a reasoned reply to what you asked that it would require a degree of empathy with Palestinians, which unfortunately seems to be something some Americans (not all or even most) appear totally incapable of.

5. This is fine as long as there is no Islamic Palestinian state
No theocracies, period!

Last time I checked, Iran was an Islamic republic and Saudi Arabia was financing the hate fest that are the Wahhabi schools across the world.

11. actually, Fatah says only the PLO recognized Israel's right to exist
Of course, shortly after signing the Oslo accords in 1994, Arafat took it back and pledged Israel's destruction in his very controversial Johannesburg speech:

And then in 1996, Stockholm:

10. Israel - PLO letters of recognition
For any folk who have a tendency to think some bloke somewhere saying otherwise trumps official letters of recognition, stop reading here. For anyone interested in history and facts, read on:

1: Letter from Yasser Arafat to Prime Minister Rabin
September 9, 1993
Yitzhak Rabin
Prime Minister of Israel
Mr. Prime Minister,
The signing of the Declaration of Principles marks a new era...I would like to confirm the following PLO commitments: The PLO recognizes the right of the State of Israel to exist in peace and security. The PLO accepts United Nations Security Council Resolutions 242 and 338. The PLO commits itself...to a peaceful resolution of the conflict between the two sides and declares that all outstanding issues relating to permanent status will be resolved through negotiations...the PLO renounces the use of terrorism and other acts of violence and will assume responsibility over all PLO elements and personnel in order to assure their compliance, prevent violations and discipline violators...the PLO affirms that those articles of the Palestinian Covenant which deny Israel's right to exist, and the provisions of the Covenant which are inconsistent with the commitments of this letter are now inoperative and no longer valid. Consequently, the PLO undertakes to submit to the Palestinian National Council for formal approval the necessary changes in regard to the Palestinian Covenant.
Sincerely,
Yasser Arafat.
Chairman: The Palestine Liberation Organization.
