American Muslims Told to Leave Major U.S. Cities

An Al Qaeda (search) Web site is running a warning issued to Muslims to leave Washington D.C., New York City and Los Angeles because of implied imminent terrorist attacks, according to the Middle East Media Research Institute.

"We are serious in our warning," the message states. "The next few days will prove to you the truth of this warning … To the oppressive rulers of America we say: Expect our terms following the first strike of Allah's believing soldiers ."

It ends with another verse from the Quran : "Fight them: Allah will punish them at your hands, and will humiliate them, and will help you to overcome them, and will relieve the minds of the believers."

In conjunction with the memo, Al Qaeda's Al Faroq posted a photo of the Chinook helicopter shot down on Sunday with a caption in Arabic that reads: "We shall bring down and destroy the values of the Hubal of this generation." Fifteen Americans died in the helicopter attack.

it DOES matter that this is from Faux News! Because I would consider anything from them with very high suspicion (anti-Arab agenda)

After several fruitless independent searches, I followed Fox's own links and found this at MEMRI (Mid-East Media Research Institute).

MEMRI, for your information, is a notorious neo-con outfit.

It found the warning on a Yahoo! Groups page, Global Islamic Media. The page is in Arabic, and you have to have your browser configured properly to read it -- providing you know Arabic. (I don't.)

I smell un grand canard.

MEMRI has a reputation for accurately translating pieces from the Arabic and Hebrew-language press. However, they also have a reputation for bias in what they select to be translated.

I'd like to know more about this "warning". It could be genuine or bogus. Nevertheless, I'm sure it was published in Arabic somewhere.

There does not seem much reason to doubt the statement is genuine. The Al Queda organization certainly exists, and is unremittingly hostile to the United States, and to un-believers generally. This is pretty typical of its propaganda boiler-plate, aimed at lifting the morale of its adherents and fellow travellers.

Whether it is to be taken seriously as a prediction is much more dubious. It does not seem likely to me that any real operational plan would be so disclosed in advance.

I would not expect them to be attacking any of those three
cities. There is always plenty of time to take credit afterwards,
when the value of the information as a warning is nil. The notion
that they have much concern for Muslims who might be in the way does
not stand up very well either.
