Our World: Reclaiming Language from the Left
Over the past generation, the Left has inverted the terminology of human rights, freedom, morality, heroism, democracy and victimization.

Courtesy of Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, on Thursday Israel will again be the target of a jihadist-leftist propaganda assault. A flotilla of nine ships which set sail for Gaza from Cyprus earlier this week is scheduled to arrive at our doorstep.

The expressed aim of the flotilla’s organizers is to unlawfully provide aid and comfort to Hamas – an illegal terrorist organization. Since it seized power in Gaza three years ago, Hamas, which is openly committed to the genocide of world Jewry and the physical eradication of Israel, has transformed the Gaza Strip into a hub of the global jihad. It has been illegally holding hostage Gilad Schalit incognito for four years. And it is continuously engaged in a massive, Iranian-financed arms buildup ahead of its next assault.

Beyond providing aid to Hamas, the declared aim of the “Free Gaza” movement is to coerce Israel into providing Hamas with an outlet to the sea. This too is in contravention of international law which expressly prohibits states and non-state actors from providing any support to terrorist organizations

<snip>

.SO FAR, they are getting away with it. So far, for their efforts on behalf of a genocidal terrorist organization Erdogan and his ilk are being extolled as human rights champions. Barring any unexpected events, Israel will suffer yet another public relations disaster on Thursday when the ships approach Gaza.

2. Thanks. I had wondered about the status of the aid ships, and the added information
about the 'perspective' of those who call humanitarian efforts 'terrorism.' I'm sure they also call the mass slaughters of Palestinians noble and highly moral acts, They probably also endorse or excuse the alliances with Xtian racists and neo-fascists in Lebanon and South Africa and the US. The gov't they support certainly did/does.

3. The thing to keep sight of is that in Israel Glick is anything but a fringe extremist.
Edited on Sun May-30-10 02:38 PM by Donald Ian Rankin
Every country has lunatics like Glick; in Israel they make up most of the current government and much of the electorate, whereas support for ending the occupation is a very fringe position indeed.

A policy of supporting the moderates against the extremists in Israel will not help; what is needed is to support the left-wing "extremists" - Levy, Burston, Derfner, the Meretz party and their ilk - against what by Israeli standards are moderates.

5. Donald, have you seen ANY signs at all that the hardliners in Israel are beginning to lose support?
You'd think people would be beginning to turn against them, given that nothing the hardliners have done has actually worked and that Israel is just as deeply mired in the global recession as anyone else.

6. None whatsoever.
There is very little violence against Israel, American support for whatever it does remains undisturbed, and it gains more territory every day. The majority (I think the vast majority, but I'm not confident of that) of Israelis view this as evidence that all that dabbling in Oslo and two-state solutions and territorial "concessions" and peace was a mistake, and Netanyahu and Lieberman are the way forwards.

7. And after the massacre, as of today he might as well be chief policy writer.

8. She, not he, and I don't expect the massacre to make much difference inside Israel.

Israeli outrage is likely to be almost entirely aimed at the rest of the world for sending the flotilla and condemning the attack on it, rather than at the killing of the peace activists, and I don't expect there to be very much of it; I think Israel will view this mostly as a storm in a tea cup - after all, the activists were supporting terrorism, they got what they deserved, what is all the fuss about?

9. Obviously Israel is too far gone for anything to make a difference...
with this kind of hate rhetoric in the press and the willingness to murder civilians of another country in international waters.

Call upon President Obama to suspend US aid to Israel immediately.

No justifications left. There is no US interest to defend. No other nation is going to tolerate this rogue state's actions. During a world crisis, the US can no longer afford to be isolated over its support for a third-world apartheid regime that ambushes and murders protesters from other countries in international waters.

Pay heed to the best of the Democratic presidents.

4. I despise Hamas, but don't LIE about them for God's sake.
They have issues with Israel. They do NOT support "the genocide of world Jewry".

Hamas has never done anything to anyone, Jewish or gentile, OUTSIDE of Israel/Palestine.

They are not Nazis. Extremists, yes, but not Nazis. Only Europeans were Nazis.

There's no excuse for the Jerusalem Post to say things like that.

OR for them to claim that the purpose of the convoy was to give "aid and comfort" to Hamas.

The sole purpose of the convoy was to ease the human misery of the people of Gaza.

We now know, we ALL now know, that the siege of Gaza can never achieve its stated objective of weakening Hamas. We all know that all it is doing or ever can do is to immiserate everyone in Gaza whether those people were pro-Hamas or not.

It's time for the Israeli government to admit that the siege is not only immoral but a pragmatic failure, and to abandon it. No country anywhere can fairly say that that country HAS to starve people in another country just to guarantee its own survival. And the tactic of starving another country's population hasn't worked anywhere else either, as far as that goes.
