PA pays tribute to Metzer terrorist
By KHALED ABU TOAMEH

Under the auspices of the Palestinian Authority, a rally was held in Tulkarem on Friday in honor of Sirhan Sirhan, the Fatah gunman who last year carried out the attack in Kibbutz Metzer, killing five people, including a mother and her two children.

Sirhan, a resident of the Tulkarem refugee camp, cold-bloodedly murdered Revital Ohayon, 34, and her two sons, Matan, five, and Noam, four inside their home. He also killed Tirza Damari, 42, and Yitzhak Dori, 44, the kibbutz secretary before escaping back to the West Bank.

. . .

The rally, organized by Fatah to mark the passing of 40 days since the killing of Sirhan, was attended by hundreds of residents, political activists, gunmen from different groups, and senior Palestinian Authority officials.

Tulkarem governor Izz al-Din al-Sharif, who represented PA Chairman Yasser Arafat, delivered a speech before the crowd in which he heaped praise on Sirhan and described him as a "struggler and martyr." He also conveyed the condolences of Arafat and the Palestinian leadership to Sirhan's family.

1. Double standard
The double standard applied to Israel, which prevents public displays which honor Jews who kill Arabs in terrorist-like attacks (such as Baruch Goldstein), as opposed to the Palestinian publicly sanctioned support of terror.

Not one pro-Palistinian poster will object to this.

10. Thank you
That speaks for me, too. Both sides have their criminals and some elements of each society laud these criminals as heroes. To build memorials to the likes of Baruch Goldman or to praise the likes of Sirhan is just grotesque.

However, Ms. Gimel's objection to the official nature of the ceremony is also well taken. To officially recognize a man who murdered a mother and two children as a hero is improper, to say the least.

So if a rally is held on the west bank for these guysthe PA is responsible for it. What about all the birthday and deathday rallies for Baruch Goldstien? Is Sharon personally responsible?

5. There are none
Baruch Godstein's death is a private matter for his family. Not a state-sponsored memorial. Sharon stongly rejects any commemoration for Goldstein or for Rabin's murderer, who has a life sentence without parol.

6. It seems to be so
Tulkarem governor Izz al-Din al-Sharif, who represented PA Chairman Yasser Arafat, delivered a speech before the crowd in which he heaped praise on Sirhan and described him as a "struggler and martyr."

There is not one Israel govenment official who will say a word of prais for Goldstein. The opposite is true. His actions are abhored.

There are neo-Natzis who commemorate Hitler. Is any government of Germany therefor implicated?

9. Hmmm ...
They don't seem to be learning to renounce terrorism.
Rather the opposite. And it's three years on now, or maybe
fifty some, depending on how you look at it.
Perhaps this problem is not being approached in the right way,
like the former Shin Bet leaders suggested.
