Koinonia Humanitarian Award Honors Peace Activist
Edited on Fri Nov-21-03 07:29 AM by Resistance
This story was totally ignored in the press (and not just mainstream press)

http://www.koinoniapartners.org/ministries/events/corrie.html

Rachel Corrie will be honored postumously at Koinonia on Monday, November 17. She was run over by an Israeli bulldozer as she and members of the International Solidarity Movement were protecting a house of a Palestinian family from being demolished.

Her parents will be here to receive the Clarence Jordan Humanitarian Award and to speak on Israeli-Palestinian relations. This prestigious Award is given to an individual whose life reflects the teachings of Jesus and the spirit of Koinonia as demonstrated in the life of Clarence Jordan.

Rachel Corrie had attended Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington. She was 23 years of age and committed to peace and justice as a dream that found its way into her heart and soul. She lived with a small community, primarily of Jews and Christians, who have taken it upon themselves to stand in the way of Israeli’s bulldozing homes of innocent Palestinians. On March 16, 2003 she was run over and killed.

The citation reads in part, “…In as much as Koinonia was the birthplace of Habitat for Humanity, initiating the concept of Partnership Housing, with the ultimate goal of ‘eliminating poverty housing from the face of the earth’ and in as much as Koinonia has resolved to be a place that teaches Peace, a place that encourages prophetic responsibility, active engagement in the critical issues of our day…and in as much as Rachel Corrie exemplified the ministry of reconciliation, crossing over racial, ethnic and national boundaries, standing in solidarity with those Palestinians whose homes and neighborhoods are being demolished and whose lives are being impoverished by the policies of the Israeli government, Koinonia Partners expresses our gratitude for the spirit and prophetic witness that Rachel Corrie so nobly exemplified.”

2. Oh look
A small, local paper seems to have carried the story:

Peace activist honored posthumously

I guess that brings it down to 99.9% of all press ignoring it. Stay tuned
