Helen Thomas says Zionists control U.S. foreign policy
Edited on Fri Dec-03-10 05:39 AM by shira
Helen Thomas said Thursday that she stands by her comments about Israel she made earlier this year that led to her resignation as a national columnist.

And she went further, saying that Zionists control U.S. foreign policy and other institutions. The local Jewish community condemned her remarks.

...

“I can call a president of the United States anything in the book, but I can’t touch Israel, which has Jewish-only roads in the West Bank,” Thomas said. “No American would tolerate that — white-only roads.”

...

“Congress, the White House and Hollywood, Wall Street are owned by the Zionists. No question, in my opinion,” she said. “They put their money where their mouth is. We’re being pushed into a wrong direction in every way.”

The bigotry is one thing, but "Jewish only roads"? There's a reason she can't be trusted as a journalist.

3. "Congress, the White House and Hollywood, Wall Street are owned by the Zionists"
That one struck me the most. Not only the inclusion of Hollywood and Wall Street but the use of the phrase "owned by the Zionists" - really disturbing stuff.

And then this exchange:

Asked by the Free Press how she would respond to those who say she’s anti-Semitic, Thomas said: “I’d say I’m a Semite. What are you talking about?”

Assuming these remarks were accurately reported on, this is very very sad.

4. Good morning, this is my first post here. I never heard anyone say anything like this before,
Edited on Fri Dec-03-10 07:10 AM by secondwind

but please look at the photographs of Afghanistan by a photographer named Luke Powell.

I have had exchanges with him via email. His photographs used to hang in museums and universities all around the country, and even Pat Leahy has two hanging in his office.

At one point, the State of Israel began a very subtle campaign against this photographer, complaining that he portrayed Afghanistan in a good light. Go figure. His photographs were taken down from everywhere they had been hanging. Coincidence? And again, I am just posting what I know.

6. even Pat Leahy? Hey, Pat is an accomplished amateur photographer
By the way, could you provide links to your claims that Powell's photos were taken down "from everywhere" due to Israeli pressure?

Beautiful photos.

7. Here is a letter from Mr. Powell
Edited on Fri Dec-03-10 12:57 PM by oberliner
Dear Friends,

My web site with its 600+ photographs of Afghanistan had 62,000
visitors last year from all over the world; I hear from teachers or
students every day who want to use the photos for school projects.
Middlebury College, for many years the host of my web site, had
complaints from one individual claiming that the site threatened the
state of Israel, so they are ordering me to move it off their server
by June 1. And, they lied about the reason, claiming it to be
purely an administrative decision; someone at the college told me
about the letters and their internal debate.

It might be helpful if several people told the President of
Middlebury College, John McCardell, what a bad idea this is. Most
of the school teachers who use the site have urls on their teaching
materials that will not work after the site is moved. For email thay
can write to: xxxxx

This means that the site will be down for months, for the job of
rebuilding that will take time, and I have no other web server to
which I can move it. I cannot afford that kind of traffic on a
commercial server. When I get to Nova Scotia (I move in eight days),
I can try to find a university or organization to host the web site.
Would a demining site or UN site be available and appropriate? I
can probably rebuild it better than ever in time, but with the time
necessary to do that I could instead add new chapters with what I
shot in 2003.

Unless I get hung-up on the web site problem or a disaster with
putting my house in order, I should be back in Kabul by the middle of
the summer.

Luke

That might be what this person is referencing.

10. He traveled there well before the US intervention empowered the Taliban,
and during all phases of its recent history. Photos, from 1973-2003, show both the land and people as something unique, admirable in very many ways, and beautiful. The later ones also show the extent of the destruction since the 1970's, when the country was one of the most moderate in the region and was moving at its natural pace in a progressive direction.

I was there in 1970 and again in '71, and have included that link as a part of my sig line in the hope that a few would see past the hateful caricatures and ignorance about that country and people and others where Islam is the most common religion.

He was kind enough to scan this calendar cover from 1977 when I asked about it:

8. Antisemitism AND conspiracy theory.
This crap does not start overnight. Sucks to be Helen and her apologists. The fact that the Arabs who gave her a standing ovation means that they probably think that way too (ie I see no one from that organization condemning her paranoid crazy remarks.) All of this fosters more and more antisemitism and that is a very bad thing. They should all be ashamed and publicly exposed for what they are. Let's hope this story goes mainstream. There is something rotten in the state of Michigan.

9. Sounds like something out of the Protocols
'Congress, the White House and Hollywood, Wall Street are owned by the Zionists'

Sadly it is now obvious that her earlier remarks were NOT taken out of context.

And what does 'Hollywood' have to do with the situation, except as part of an old antisemitic conspiracy theory?
