Woman lightly wounded by Gaza rocket in southern Israel

A rocket fired from the Gaza Strip on Monday landed in southern Israel and lightly wounded a 50-year-old woman.

The rocket fell near one of the communities in the Hof Ashkelon Regional Council, causing shrapnel wounds to the woman's legs, who was then transferred to Ashkelon's Barzilai hospital. Several neighbors were treated for shock.

Two weeks ago, three Qassam rockets were fired into southern Israel and exploded in open areas. IDF forces retaliated with IDF strikes on Gaza, wounding seven people.

2. Does it say that in the article that it was a firecracker , maybe I missed it?
or perhaps it was the talkbacks maybe?

but seeing as how you threw the term firecracker into the subject you do realize that even a firecracker could cause 'light shrapnel injuries as the women's were described? not a comparison between a firecracker and highly powerful kassam. that can indeed shatter glass and knock down wallss cause holes in roofs ect, just a point in fact

4. yes 'some people say'.
however IMO sometimes when people say that it may well be a comparison of sorts and let's be honest kassams in comparison to Israel's high tech cluster munitions and smart bombs are pretty primitive and BTW firecrackers are anything but 'harmless' people get severely injured by them every year

13. Firecrackers cannot cause 'light shrapnel injuries as the women's were described".
Edited on Sat Aug-13-11 08:52 PM by Dick Dastardly
You can even place a firecracker such as a Ladyfinger on the palm of your hand and sustain no injury or even pain. At most with the most powerful firecrackers like Black Cats you may get a stinging sensation, a very minor burn and or a minor skin laceration when placed on the palm of your hand. Firecrackers will do no damage with a distance of anymore than an inch or two. Even if a pebble was launched and hit you in the eye it would probably only hurt but cause no permanent damage. The only way for firecrackers to cause any real damage is to stick one in/near your ear or on your eye and blow it off.
Firecrackers are class C fireworks, Anything more powerful than what I described are not firecrackers and are considered illegal explosives except for those with a license to handle/posess them.

5. Interesting what is left out of this article
Fascinating that this is the article you chose to post as opposed to one that provides more information about the woman herself.

You think it isn't relevant?

6. It was the article I first saw, but do feel free to post the the article
you mention, btw do you have a life story on the 2 Palestinians that IDF killed yesterday? That would be intersecting too, wouldn't you agree?

7. The article you posted about the Palestinians contains that information
In that article (also posted by you), the two people killed are identified by name and occupation.

In this article, however, no such information is included about the injured woman.

Is it because of who she is? Is it because of her ethnic and/or religious background?

8. The article I posted was from Haaretz if you have a problem with it contact them
Edited on Wed Aug-03-11 01:00 AM by azurnoir
you insinuations of ulterior motive on my part are questionable and what are your own motivations for doing so?she is alive her age was mentioned perhaps she did not give Haaretz permission to print her name whereas the Palestinians are dead and permission was either given or not needed

as I said if you know of another article that has more info on the women post it

9. The wounded women is a Bedouin were you aware of that ? I'm sure you were
Edited on Wed Aug-03-11 01:13 AM by azurnoir
however the article was from arutz sheva which I do not usually read but do you look for articles that reveal or hide certain info when you post? it would seem so or is this just some form of I dunno quite what

The rocket landed in an open field near Ashkelon, wounding a Bedouin woman in a nearby tent.

The woman, described as lightly wounded due to shrapnel in her legs, was treated by Magen David Adom medics before being evacuated to Barzilai Hospital in Ashkelon.

The wounded woman is the wife of a shepherd from Be'er Sheva who tends his flock in the area several months per year with approval of the local regional council.

12. Israeli air strikes injure 5 in Gaza
Israeli military air strikes injured five people across the Gaza Strip overnight on Thursday.

Medics told Ma'an that three people were seriously injured in an air strike on the northern city of Beit Lahiya.

An Israeli army spokeswoman said the military targeted the launch site of a rocket in northern Gaza around 10.00 p.m. Thursday.

Shortly after, air strikes hit central and southern Gaza, and witnesses told Ma'an that two Palestinians from the Al-Tuffah neighborhood of Gaza City had been injured.

The Israeli army spokeswoman said that forces targeted "three tunnels in central Gaza Strip and a terror activity site, as well as a terror activity site in the southern Gaza Strip. Direct hits were confirmed."
