U.S. meets with Palestinian PM

"We very much hope that concrete steps can be taken by all sides on all the issues necessary to see progress restored," said senior State Department official David Satterfield.

Palestinian Prime Minister Ahmed Qureia said the U.S. repeated its commitment to a Palestinian state but "stressed the importance of stopping violence from both sides."

Satterfield traveled to the Mideast after attending a conference in Rome of the international donor nations that support the Palestinian Authority. The Palestinians rely on the donors for 60% of their funding.

The donors urged the Palestinians to do more to stop deadly militant attacks on Israeli civilians and soldiers and to push forward with economic reforms. They also urged Israel - which participated in the conference - to improve the lives of the 3 million Palestinians living under Israeli military control in the West Bank and Gaza.
