Xinhuanet: Israel's tank commander indicted over death of Palestinian boy

JERUSALEM, Dec. 14 (Xinhuanet) -- An Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) tank commander has been indicted in the IDF Northern Command's military court over causing the death of an eight-year-old Palestinian boy, Israeli newspaper Ha'aretz reported Sunday.

The details of the incident, which occurred in the Gaza Strip, have not been disclosed up to now, said the newspaper.

The boy, Mahmud Hassan al-Talalka, was killed by IDF fire in Beit Hanun in the northern Gaza Strip on March 1, 2002.

Several months ago, the Palestinian Center for Human Rights which operates in the Gaza Strip demanded the IDF conduct an investigation of the boy's death.

The IDF Military Prosecutor Colonel Eitan Ron notified the Palestinian human rights group on Dec. 4 that an IDF soldier has been indicted for the incident.

1. Clearly, Israel takes legal action against ....

members of the IDF when there has been wrong-doing and such action is appropriate. Thanks for posting the article, as there are some who appear not to have been informed of that.

2. It's only one boy

Thousands have been murdered by the Israeli army. Land is still being stolen. Homes bulldozed.

You have no case to make whatsoever just because of a single indictment.

8. And it's the sentencing which is important...

I've read that the tendency is to punish those actually convicted of killing Palestinians by giving them little more than a slap on the wrist...
