Yaron: We’ll need a $5b defense industry for a long time
Edited on Wed Dec-24-03 09:36 PM by Resistance
Hey American taxpayers ya better fork out the cash! Never mind that the Israeli military murdered some peace activists, including an American citizen - they need money bad!! Hand it over!

Globes Online

“The defense industry will continue to prosper, because our current strategic situation will continue for a long time. We’ll need a $5 billion-a-year defense industry,” Ministry of Defense director-general Amos Yaron said today at the Institute of Policy and Strategy's annual Herzliya Conference.

Economic Models Israel CEO Yaakov Sheinin said at the conference that the defense industries were one of the biggest catalysts in the Israeli economy. “This industry employs 31,000 workers, and unfortunately, it isn’t exploited at all,” he stated.

”The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) can be made capital intensive. For example, for every Merkava Mark 4 tank manufactured today, the IDF is willing to get rid of two other tanks, which means fewer personnel and lower costs. Many more should be manufactured. Now is the time to produce Merkava tanks, because there’s no alternative,” Sheinin declared.

4. They dont deserve a dime.

They murdered Rachel Corrie, a sweet girl standing in front of a bulldozer.

The IDF is out of control and needs to be held accountable.

5. It was accidental, not murder. And she was reckless and negligent.
That doesn't make her death less horrible. But it makes her complicit.

and all of the militant/chauvinist tendencies and social spending cuts justified by "national security" that goes along with such a scam.

It is indeed most unfortunate that industries of death aren't being exploited for more profits.. :eyes:

I love the way these economists think, it reminds me so much of why I think the way I do.

14. "There is no alternative to more tanks"
The opposite of what the serious military analysts in Israel say.

Makes sense if you want to funnel US taxpayer cash into the pockets of Israeli business men though.

But, as here in the good old USA, it distorts and
parasitizes the "real" economy, and the longer it
goes on and the worse the distortion is, the less
chance that it will ever be corrected in a gradual
and non-traumatic fashion.
