Israel Plans New Name for W. Bank Barrier
Israel is considering a new name for its massive complex of walls, fences and watch towers in the West Bank changing it from a "security fence" to the "Terror Prevention Fence" in an attempt to improve its international image.

1. There for a minute I thought
you were going to say "Freedom Shield". Israel seems to have knack for absurdities of hypocrisy.

3. Here are some other suggestions:
Suggestions for the Apartheid Wall:

  • The Brotherhood Barricade.
  • The Love Wall
  • The Friendship Fence
  • The Bliss Barrier
  • The Peace Partition
  • The Divine Divider
  • The Cement Curtain of Kindness

This is just a start. I'm sure I could think of some more with time.

7. LOL! I hadn't thought of that!
Maybe the state of Israel could hire some of the promotion people from the condom business?

Just imagine an endorsement for the "Terrorist Prevention Fence" from Trojan Man.

5. It's not what it's called that causes the problem...
...it's where it IS. Orwellian double-speak.

Course, Faux news still refers to Homicide Bombing so I'm sure they'll be changing those graphics any minute now...

11. You reference the Great Wall of China
You seem to indicate that Israel must indeed keep out the barbarians as the Chinese did many hundreds of years ago. I can certainly agree with you on that point.

You made the analogy, don't blame me.

13. Are you inferring...
...that Israel is trying to keep 'barbarians' at bay with their wall? Since 'barbarian' can be defined as relating to a land, culture or people alien and usually believed to be inferior to another land, culture or people, your analogy is wrong. The Palestinian people and their culture are not alien nor inferior to Israel.

14. I didn't infer anything
When you outright cite a historical reference, you get the whole thing lock, stock and barrel. Hell, you didn't even imply it. You stated it clear as day.

I simply took what you had written and concurred with a piece of it.

No, not all Palestinians are barbarians. The Peace Fence is not designed to protect against peaceful Palestinians. Such a concept would be foolish because there would be nothing to protect against. The Peace Fence is aimed to protect Israelis from the most barbarous enemies Israel has ever faced -- the massive network of Palestinian terror groups.

15. Actually...
...my point in citing the Great Wall of China had less to do with it's intended goal of protecting China, rather I thought it resembled Israel's wall in that it ultimately failed it's goals. The so-called 'Peace Wall' will not bring peace. It will only excaberate the situation.

16. Keeping out the barbarians
As you now finesse the previous analogy, I still find the logic in your original post about keeping out the barbarous ones who mean to kill women and children.

As for peace, nothing Israel can do will guarantee such a dream. All it can do is do the best it can protecting its own and keeping out the hordes of bombers who try to kill.

18. How silly to think
changing the name of the apartheid wall will improve Israel's international image. Only dismantling the settlements, for starters, will.

20. The REAL name
The separation barrier does have an official new name from the government of Ariel Sharon. It is more pragmatic and won't make it into the condom list.

It's now the Anti-Terror Fence.

22. LOL
No doubt because even GOI hawks have concluded this joke of a land grab is "totally indefensible".

You keep at it though :)

23. No conclusions have been made
The route of the fence is based on defensive concerns. Why should it be changed to appear more or less a land grab, which it is not.

I see you're back again. Same old stuff.

24. Of course
Which explains why oh-so-innocent GOI bulldozers are working 24 hours a day, seven days a week to complete the Jerusalem sections?1

Nothing to hide I suppose.

Oh, and of course, that 24/7 timetable has nothing whatsoever to do with the fact Israel knows (and has essentially admitted, in private) that the current route is indefensible, hence the specific orders2 to speed up construction to make the ICJ decision irrelevant?

The real amusing thing is that Sharon is so worried about the international pressure he's actually ordering his ministers to shut the fuck up about the fence (those orders subtly directed at Shinui Justice Lapid of course)3.

Sure sounds like a leader who feels comfortable defending his position of the fence being strictly "defensive", doesn't it?

Not sure why you think it is a good thing to be on Sharon's side and to the right of Lapid (and others), but still, nice to see you too.
