Olmert: Disengagement plan to begin in June
Olmert: Disengagement plan to begin in June
Ben Caspit, Ma'ariv, 27 Jan 2004

Deputy Prime Minister Ehud Olmert said yesterday in an interview with Yair Lapid (Channel 2) that his estimation is that the Prime Minister's disengagement plan will begin around June.

Olmert said that this estimate is in line with the Prime Minister's speech at the Herzliah Conference, since PM Sharon allocated six months to further poltical steps with the Palestinians, before beginning the disengement plan.

Comment: At least it isn't possible to say that they aren't being honest about their plans. Note that in the words of one (fairly RW) Jerusalem news operation, Olmert is "believed to act as point man for Sharon on sticky issues".1

In fact, this is basically a repeat of his statement of Monday 12th, if anybody is interested.2

Who is usually correct on these matters.

Also, according to Israeli TV the bulldozers are working overtime (24/7) to build the sections which are beyond the Green Line, in accord with the clear and explicitly announced plans of Israel to make the Hague decision irrelevant.

4. June is about when we are due to institute democracy in Iraq, too.
Everybody is in a hurry to get things done these days.

5. I wonder if Iraq will have a choice between generals and more generals
Following in the footsteps of Israel, the "beacon" for the region.

7. I am guessing we don't have until June in Iraq.
Time will tell. I do expect that one way or another there
will be plenty of Generals and the like in evidence, most
likely from a wide variety of ethnic backgrounds.

6. Sure
Explains why Sharon couldn't even bring himself to say "West Bank" in his speech, rather than "Judea and Samaria". Really sounds like a guy "disengaging" from the place, doesn't it?

:dunce:
