"The "Israel 2003" report by the Central Bureau of Statistics published today (Tuesday) indicates that Israeli Arabs are still falling behind the rest of the population. The report points to significant differences in the welfare of the Arab population as compared to Israeli Jews, apparent in all stages of life.
The baby mortality rate among Arabs is double that of Jewish babies, while 54% of Arab children live in poverty, compared to only 20% of Jewish children.
Arabs also fare worse than Jews when it comes to education. For example, in 2001 only 68% of 17 year-old Arabs were enrolled in the school system, compared to 90.2% of their Jewish counterparts. In addition, Arab students' rate of eligibility for high school matriculation diplomas was much lower than that of Jews."
