* Labor supports tough stance, Meretz-Yahad demands immediate Gaza withdrawal, National Union calls for unlimited warfare *The PM, speaking before the Knesset, has said that Israel is facing “a cruel and inhumane enemy”, but will not be deterred, and will not cease waging war against the terrorists, no matter where they try to hide.
Opposition leader Shimon Peres supported the premier’s tough stand, saying “we are united not only in tears, but also in resolve to fight and beat the mad dog of terrorism. ”We agree that the only way to face up to the Bin Ladens, Jihadites and Hamasniks of this world is with a strong arm and clenched fist”, he said.
Meretz-Yahad attacked the government’s policies, saying they were needlessly putting IDF troops in harms way. They called on the government to immediately withdraw from Gaza, since every day there is living proof of how right Defense Minister Mofaz was when he recently called Jewish settlement in Gaza “historical folly”.
The government also came under attack from its right flank, with two National Union MK’s saying that it was time to put all non-military considerations aside, and begin a campaign of unrestricted warfare against the PA until the last terrorist is either apprehended or killed. They called on the IDF to refrain from sending ground forces in to hotspots until aerial bombing had destroyed areas known to be hornets nests of terrorism. There is no justification for putting our boys needlessly in harms way to spare Palestinian lives and property, said two of the party’s backbenchers.
