Two soldiers hurt in bombing attempt at Rafah terminal

A Palestinian man died late on Friday of injuries sustained during a botched attack on Israeli forces in Rafah with an anti-tank grenade, witnesses and hospital sources said.

The man was identified as Nabil Zino, 21 who was a member of the militant group Al-Aqsa Martyrs` Brigades, associated with Yasser Arafat's Fatah movement.

He was injured by Israel Defense Forces gunfire during a botched attack in the Rafah refugee camp's Brazil neighborhood.

At around 8:30 A.M. the terrorists set out from the Dahaniyeh area, heading for the terminal. They apparently intended to detonate the explosives as they drove alongside a bus carrying Airports Authority employees who work at the terminal.

The jeep's path was blocked, however, by mounds of earth placed between Israeli and Palestinian areas. When the driver could not reach the bus, the other terrorist opened fire on the vehicle. The explosives in the jeep detonated, killing both men.

There were no injuries among the passengers on the armored bus.

Three armed factions - Islamic Jihad, al Aqsa Martyrs Brigades and Popular Resistance Committees - claimed joint responsiblility for the attack.
